OPENWEB'S ADSL VPN PACKAGE

Hey cool I got quoted!

I was previously on 384k Cybersmart and during raids I obtained 600-800ms. While I have reportedly lower latencies on the Openweb VPN it occasionally spikes but it is certainly faster - I had trouble adjusting to "cast lag" as there was slightly less of it. Also zoning in to populated areas seems to take a while (logging on to a full raid in progress - characters take a while to load up - weird) but that could be attributed to other issues.

Since Tuesday 8 September service has been terrible and unusable. I have been informed that this is a Verizon problem (the VPN is hosted on their fibre optic backbone) and they intend to have it fixed this weekend. We shall see.

I also have the problem where the VPN disconnects several times a day and it is highly aggravating - I was also informed that this problem has it routes in the same thing that is causing the slow speeds this week and will also be fixed. Paul at Openweb informed me that the VPN should NEVER disconnect and advised me to mail [email protected] (not support) to check connection logs and to try rectify the problem.

In my opinion it is an extremely good value for money package when it works. 10 gigs unshaped at that price is a godsend.

i see - ;)

the problem is ...if we connecting from a router...we dont know when the VPN connection is dropped and also...i dont know how to connect to VPN thru the router (WRT54GL)...

anybody....?????

The speed as such is ok types...but definetly not as promised.

You are supposed to connect to the vpn using your operating systems network connection facility :)

thanx for all your responses...but i agree to keoma that its best for personal use but i wanted to use it for Business....so sadfully i m cancelling the accounts...but doesn't mean the package is not gud.

Try this:

First create the separate connections from within windows as instructed earlier.

Assign your computer an IP, 192.168.x.x and then your router 192.168.x.x+1 and then every computer successive numbers like 192.168.x.x+2 etc. Share the VPN connection. Setup each computer to connect to the internet through a computer on the network.

Hope that helps?

my vpn experience so far; applied and paid for.

day 1 (1st nov 2008); nothing the main suppliers has not allocated my package. I am just disappointed, maybe i excepted too much and could have sent a reminder through on friday just to say 'hi, please remember i am to get my details on saturday'. No worries yet i had 150megs left @ wa that i guess will do till end of sat which i was expecting my allocation.

day 2 (2nd nov 2008); still nothing, my cap is running dry - but hey there is nexus custom dsl for just R72 per gig and it his roll over. Applied for it only to receive it 5 hours later. So much for instant activation, in the end i bought more wa bandwidth....and still no vpn yet.

day 3 tomorrow ? (3rd nov 2008); i hope it will be sorted out and allocated.

in the end i can only say that i am not angry just totally disappointed and there used to be a meaning to "my word is my honor, what i say i will do no matter what", i can only ask if i was excepting maybe too much...

Hey Necuno

I personally sent your VPN account details this morning.

I will resend it to your email address.

I apologise for the delay though, it was a supplier problem.

Kind regards
MrBEEP

Off topic.

I am sure Nexus is much bigger than Skyway but I received good service from Skyways, I bought the 3g Intl/30g Local ADSL lite around noon today, pay via EFT and sent the POP to their billings email, got my details within an hour. Remember this is EFT and money will only go through tomorrow (different banks).

....all details received early this morning - now i can finally see what this vpn is all about :)

i must honestly say at this point i am a bit pissed off at this service was working till about 15mins back now i can't connect at all.

so far its been a total waste of R300 of nothing, all i have gotten was a castrated connection, i had so high hopes, i ate some much hype...

/sigh

3 month contract on signup with this much nonsense? again day 4 now and no action, no cap, no nothing. Back on wa's prepaid this month is going to cost me a fortune :(mad:

:update, ICS breaks it - for now since i cant do pptp i had to use a proxy client software with proxycap on the other pc

...at this moment i want to just rip some heads off; who needs slipknow and a mask when you can have dsl issues

I was considering to get the VIP-Access package (Openweb VPN package is reselling VIP-Access VPN bandwidth by the way) but after the numerous complains against the Openweb VPN I am not sure about this anymore. R130 IS local 30g + R469 256kbps unshapped uncapped Intl VPN connections is really tempting.....

not sure what happened, but the vpn its back and working. allthough surfing is fooking slow, especially myadsl's site

-it seems to get better and better slowly
