I put the newly-released Opera 10.6 snapshot build up against both the Chrome 5 beta and Chrome 6 dev channel builds, and the results were pretty astounding: Opera 10.6 posted a Peacekeeper benchmark almost 25% higher than Google Chrome 6.0.408.1 (my results here). Sebastian's numbers were a bit closer, but Opera 10.6 still won (+14%).

Anyone given it a try yet?

I've got to say - you can FEEL the performance improvement compared to Chrome / FF. Plus the whole package feels incredibly polished and high-quality.

Oh, and for Linux users (like myself):
For Unix users, this obviously means that there will be no 10.5x version. However, we are aiming for synchronizing the 10.60 release across all platforms, and Unix will benefit from all the improvements since 10.5x.

Looking forward to the final release ;)

I'm keen, I was using the 10.53beta on my Linux box. Seriously keen to try out 10.60 now!

Neither Xmarks nor LastPass work with it. I suppose if you just browse the web without extensions or plugins... It's your best bet.

Well opera has its own sync tool so xmarks is a bit redundant. If you are migrating from FF just export your bookmarks, import into Opera and Syn will sort you out.

Redundant if you are only ever going to just use Opera.

Safari, Firefox, IE(Dare I say) and Chrome are all supported by Xmarks... The browser provides a lack of support when it comes to browser plugins, Firefox and Chrome are currently paving the way. Chrome is used by more people than Opera these days, even though Opera has been around for eons.

Not everyone drives Rolls Royce's, only the discerning.

Opera 10.60 is MUCH faster to load on both my laptop and my netbook, and delivers pages at a rate greater than either FireFox or IE8 in my informal tests. It might just be because of the limitations of where I live and using VC mobile broadband (3G most days, HSDPA rarely and GPRS on a bad day), but the Turbo feature performance is patchy and not really worth using -- it also causes some page-display problems.

Speeddial is a GREAT feature if you are prepared to invest the time in setting it up. If you are really geeky you can even add the relevant website logos to each button instead of the default page thumbnail.

On the downside, there are still certain sites, notably internet banking, where you are going to have to fall back on FireFox or IE. But in terms of speed and clean delivery the new Opera is a winner -- and I continue to LOVE that one-touch button you can put on your toolbar to toggle between loading images or not, a huge time (and data-charge) saver!

Started using 10.62 today and I'm pleasantly surprised. I always wondered what all the fuss was, I've been a loyal Firefox supporter for a while now.

Now I've got 3 browsers, well 1 was forced onto me anyway :(
