Not sure this is the correct place but here goes.

I noticed some strange behaviour when entering a URL into the Opera browser version 67.0.3575.53. I have a few websites that log 404 errors, and I have seen that when you type a URL into the browser it is navigating to the URL in the bacgkround at every key press and before you push enter.

For example when I type:
https://www.domain.com/h -> this produces a 404 error and I haven't pressed enter
https://www.domain.com/ho -> this produces a 404 error and I haven't pressed enter
https://www.domain.com/hom -> this produces a 404 error and I haven't pressed enter
https://www.domain.com/home -> this produces a 404 error and I haven't pressed enter
https://www.domain.com/home. -> this produces a 404 error and I haven't pressed enter
https://www.domain.com/home.p -> this produces a 404 error and I haven't pressed enter
https://www.domain.com/home.ph -> this produces a 404 error and I haven't pressed enter
https://www.domain.com/home.php -> no error, page exists and then I push enter and go to the page

This does not show up in the network tab in developer tools. It also did not happen in version 66. I have another pc that had version 66, it did not happen. I upgraded to 67 and it happened again. I have all predictive search settings off and I am on WIndows 10 x64. I tried a clean install of Opera, same problem. This doesn't happen in Chrome or Microsoft Edge(Chromium).

I find this to be strange because from a data usage and server load prespective it means the user is hitting the website several times before actually getting to the page they want. Am I missing something?

@stavey, do yourself a favour and remove Opera from your machine.

Clearly Opera listens to each keypress, all the time.

If you want a browser like opera, try Vivaldi. Otherwise Firefox or Chrome work just fine.
I am actually trying out Brave at the moment. Not long enough to say if I like it or not.
