Opera demo paged browsing

Would take a while to get use too. Plus just more loading since they calling up a new page each time

But because the web browser assumes you going to carry on reading it could load the next pages in the background similar to the way chrome does it now.

What if its a LIE - geddit? Ceo's name hahahaha
Quite lame actually

This is one of the reasons I love Opera. Always implementing the cool new stuff first.

Which is why it'll be optional. So no, not a fail.
Only going to be good if you have proper international CDN. Otherwise it's going be sucky getting that from a centralized server only.

Obviously you could pre-load the "pages" with AJAX techniques and not have latency.

But I think it's fundamentally the wrong direction to go in. Pages were a response to a physical limitation -- how to print text on paper in a form that is actually manageable. On the web they were a response to a technical limitation.

But pages have their own limitations in user experience. Scrolling is a far better way to display content, but it depends on good scrollbars

That's where the issue is for mobile devices -- scrolling sucks because there are no scrollbars. The solution? Not pages -- but better scrollbars! This is what Opera should be working on.

Håkon Wium Lie with Android tablet showing CSS paging in action

All I see is a static page and some other pix with some code. Where is the demo?

It was on the tablet built into an unreleased version of Opera Mobile. You can download the editor's draft and implement the proposed spec in your favourite open source browser of choice if you'd like ;-D

Just another feature that is going to cause issues across browsers, because every browser is going to interpret it differently.
