Operator looks to WiMax

I just have to say: I Love iBurst!

And with 2500 to 3000 new subscribers per month, that is more than 100% growth per year. And all telscum can do is increase their backlog...

The fixed-line operator's installation times have fallen dramatically in recent months
The ADSL article said installation times have plummeted. So they're installing quickly now then?

If they drop their prices I am sure they will be able to give ol' telscum a good run for their money...

Dammit, now the question is, should I get I-burst now as intended, or wait for Wimax...

now if they just would cover my area i might consider it....o wait they expensive. nevermind then

TNS : They might be more expensive than MyWireless, but they are not much more than ADSL

3GB iBurst = R599
ADSL = R80 + R245 + R200 (3GB) = R525

And iBurst is a lot faster. Quite nice for only R74 extra per month

+64kb after cap. Unlimited, you could pull 10gigs off that account if you were only interested in downlaoding as much as possible. Some have done 30gigs in a month.

Alot of ADSLer's dont seem to even be aware of this..

mmm, 30gigs you say? i should be able to dl a hellofalot then via satelite vpn.

The news of iBurst's plans comes as Telkom struggles to keep up with demand for leased lines. The fixed-line operator's installation times have fallen dramatically in recent months, according to Internet service providers.
:mad: this is due to incompetence, nothing more

3GB iBurst = R599
ADSL = R80 + R245 + R200 (3GB) = R525

You can only add that R80 if you won't have a homeline after you remove the adsl service, ie you don't use the fixed line phone at home.

krycor : True. But speaking just from my own personal experience, noone uses a landline anymore. Cellphones have become the primary means of communicating. When I got MyWireless, I got rid of my phone line and all things Telkom. MyWireless for internet, Cellphone for calls and Skype on the rare occasion

Isn't the phone line rental suppose to have gone up, while the ADSL line rental went down? Anybody know how much it's suppose to be now? That'll should make the discrepancy between iBurst and ADSL even smaller and possibly worthwhile.

Yes it did go up. it was around R90, now i think its almost R100.

If you look up all the old threads about the price decrease/rental increase, then you will be able to see it in the newspaper scans and I'm sure people will mention it.

Also, what I have seen alot lately are those skype phones, the calls are very cheap and they plug straight into your router. So you get much cheaper calls than cellphones and a land line interface which is just homely to most people. Plus calls between the service are completely free. So you can get it for all your friend and save tons.

I saw a advert for them where they advertised them with Iburst as the interbnet connection used with it.

What speed you get on iburst? i thought it was 1mbps? if so and relatively stable at that speed should't it also be compared to the 1mbps adsl line.. ie not R245 but R516. In that instance it actually does work out better. its like ~R200 cheaper or more with pots rental.

Here's the Aug 1 revisions with 512k and 1024k:

3GB iBurst = R599
ADSL = R99.92 + R362(512k) + R200 (3GB) = R621.92
ADSL = R99.92 + R516(1024k) + R200 (3GB) = R815.92
