[Opinion] Don't apologise - empathise

I couldn’t agree more. According to majority of the members on this forum all those that vote for certain parties are KFC hungry idiots, this generalisation obviously includes elders I’ve got the outmost respect for and needless to say are very intelligent. But until you are born under oppression or were raised by someone who has been oppressed most of their life, you know nothing. Considering the psychological damage incurred by victims of Apartheid, the 20 years some keep hammering on is… nothing I’m afraid. Individuals who keep on emphasising the stupidity of others, only confirm their own level of ignorance - the one thing that hurts us all the most.

No. Those who vote for certain parties, despite the fact that said parties have continually failed to live up to their promises and have systematically raided and pillaged the constituencies they are responsible for, are KFC hungry idiots. Voting on racial lines, as opposed to facts, is just another form of racism.

That would be every single person on the planet that's ever voted for a governing party in an election....

This is exactly what I have been saying. Racism is a minor issue compared to the other stuff that is going on in this country.

Totally not bait.

> Be of a certain race
> Vote for a party that is predominantly composed of people of the same race, but is abjectly incompetent and corrupt and is running things into the ground, because other parties that aren't your race are obviously the enemy

is not the same as

> Be of certain beliefs
> Vote for a party that is predominantly composed of people of the same beliefs, and has done an okay job, because they've done an okay job

The former is SA, the latter is any country with a functional democracy where politicians are held accountable in at least some way, and the two are not comparable in terms of the f**kery that they do and don't cause respectively. Yes, it would be nice if everyone voted on facts, but it would also be nice if everyone had a million bucks.

If we truly want to address racism in South Africa, we need to address voting on racial lines.

:wtf:

How?

If I were to do it, I would allocate an extra vote for people if they can:
1) Answer a test on current affairs in politics. (Just basic stuff such as identifying the leaders of political parties, matching political party statements to political parties)
2) Answer a test on ethics. (If you see your wife stealing money, should you report her?)

Then make all the material needed to pass the test readily available to anyone who cares. If people couldn't be bothered to learn, their opinion of who should run the country is substantially reduced.

That is your own world view. I vote ANC because my life is better under ANC than otherwise would have been the case. What is do difficult to understand about that? That is a fact. The people that voted along racial lines are those that kept the previous government in power.

my life is better under ANC than otherwise would have been the case

how exactly do you know that? I mean how do you know your life would not be better under another party?

The fact is since the vote was opened up to everyone, there has never been another party in control besides the ANC, hence there is no proof whatsoever of what life would be like with another party running the show.

Take the western cape for example, it is not under ANC rule and it is doing significantly better than most provinces in many areas, the 2015 matric results for example, Western Cape comes out tops and it sure as hell is not just a single race that benefits from a good education ...

You're keeping education down in the dumps. You're stopping service delivery from happening. You're keeping corruption in this government alive and well by voting anc -but of course you know this.
Well done. You sir, along with those pesky racists, are what's wrong with this country today.

Funny how you're also the one making the biggest stink about these useless racists instead of service delivery. Hmmm...where did you say you worked again? Could've sworn I caught a whiff of shill just-now....

Careful...you're treading into racist territory now....

It is obviously an opinion, not a fact.

not so obvious, you stated quite categorically your life is better under the ANC than it otherwise would have been, not it is likely or probably better, but it is better:
my life is better under ANC than otherwise would have been the case. What is do difficult to understand about that? That is a fact.

I just pray that many years from now, under a new government, when we're all crawling in the dust trying to build up our once great nation after it was totally annihilated by your beloved ANC we don't have to listen to those same ramblings yet again, only this time referring to the ANC:

The people that voted along racial lines are those that kept the previous government in power

Firstly, that's your opinion. You have no way of objectively proving that your life under the ANC is better than it would have been under the DA or another political party. There are people of all races who say their lives were better under apartheid than under the current regime. Are their experiences irrelevant?

Secondly, it's not just your life that matters. It's the lives of everyone in the country. You can't just vote for your own self-interest, you need to vote for the greater good of all. That means voting for a party that has strong and accountable leadership, viable policies for growth, and a consistent record of making things better where they govern.

The people that voted along racial lines are those that kept the previous government in power.

Thank you for reinforcing my point.

You're being obtuse. The only other comparison we have is the National Party who was in control for 40 years.
My life is better under the ANC than it otherwise would have been had the NP continued to be in control.

Some people tend to forget about the referendum in 1992, where the vast majority of voters voted yes to ending apartheid..

The obtuse one would seem to be you, the NP does not exist anymore, in fact it ceased to exist in 1997, so ok, fair enough in 1994 your logic could well be a justification to vote ANC, but in case you have not noticed there has been four general elections held after 1994, there was no such thing as the NP in any of them, hell even the completely irrelevant NNP did not even exist in the last two elections.

So if a fear of NP control should you not vote ANC keeps you up at night, sleep easy dude, they officially disbanded in 2005 ...

For the majority of the people, the ANC hits all those points.

The problem we have with elections in this country and why there is such a split is that different racial groups have generally have different standards because of Apartheid. So white people might think that the ANC building a rubbish hospital is terrible because they have been to a nice hospital, but black people might think a rubbish hospital is better than no hospital.

This is wearing off quickly because the ANC is managing to go backwards in quite a few areas of governance.

Yes, that is why my life is better. That's the point. It's because the ANC took control from the NP.
Capish?

No, no capiche, just because a party improves life in one election you are willing to give them your entire lifetime of votes no matter how much they mess things up?!? :wtf:

The vast majority of South Africans have now spent more of their lives under ANC rule than NP rule, at least anyone aged 42 or less, there is no reason to give blind loyalty to a corrupt, alleged rapist thief like #1
