[Opinion] Oh Cape Town, "Using my white privilege"

Would not surprise me in the least. But unfortunately these events usually just become he said/she said tennis matches.
If you want to do this properly get it all recorded and video taped.

Not all of those are 'facts' dear. It's secondhand info.

Nah, doesn't add up, or if the story is true, the author wouldn't have been able to book either.
Ok, dear, but the restaurant didn't dispute any of that info, did they?

Whether this is true or not is besides the point... How big must the chip on your shoulder be when informed that a restaurant is fully booked to immediately assume racism and get your white friend to phone?

Personally I wouldn't want feckers like this in my restaurant, self entitled pricks who pull a race card at every opportunity.

I smell BS. This goes entirely against their solid reputation backed up by people of colour who have been patrons there.

You're not being logical. The restaurant simply can't dispute most of those, even if they were made up. If the call wasn't recorded, you can't prove them either.

If you read the article on iol, the diner said there wasn't a problem until she gave a (presumably black) name for the booking, so maybe she sounds white.

Odd story, with both sides equally deserving of a scoop of scepticism.

However a quick browse through Martina's blog reveals that this lady has been deeply focused on race and racism for many years now. I feel that her story may have become coloured by race before it was reasonable to do so and I'd be willing to give 12 Apostles the benefit of the doubt as a result.

There is an subtle motivation to turn Cape Town into the racist province, also painting white people in general.

That is there testimony however. I know a great deal of people who change events in a story.

This story just lacks any solid evidence and if there IS actual racism, they must be turning away customers by the droves.

It makes no sense that you cannot tell someone is black from their accent, and from hearing their name you suddenly click that someone is a certain race and refuse them entry.

It could very well be racism, but there are no facts presented and i have more faith in an establishment that serves thousands of people, rather than a person from natal who calls up their liberal friend to catch a racist

Laaik have you heard how these black model C kids speak, bru?

We are becoming overly preoccupied with race in this country.
It's becoming a real issue for South Africa as a growing nation.

It's time to stfu and get on with life and creating a productive country.
Stop the BS and take the mtf log out of your eye before criticizing the twig in someone else's.

I know black, Indian and coloured people who sound completely white.

This does sound sketchy.

Does sound very sketchy.

A friend of mine reported a similar thing... she phoned to book a room and they said the place was full, but she hadn't even said when she wanted to come !
Then they suggested another place that she could afford. WTF!

Name and shame I say !

These places deserve all the bad press they can get.
