orange box

icyrus ... um ... I start a steam game and it has to connect otherwise I cannot play the game.
Or .. has this changed?

If you want to play online steam needs to authenticate against its central servers, otherwise you can play in offline mode if you're not online.

Yeah Steam is rather rubbish... but once all is done u can use offline mode. But damnit the Orange Box is exceptional! Finished Portal and Epi1, abt halfway through Epi2. Still yet to play TF2

I just got it and I already hate it.

Well I have not had many problems over he years that I have had steam :D only problems that I could think of was trying to activate games on the release day!

Great, I just started "installing" Orange Box, but now I have to wait for the activation/"purchase", they said they'll let me know:mad:. Its like buying ice cream and then not being allowed to eat it, its in front of you, you paid for it, but nooooo, the ice cream guy will let you know when you can eat it.

How long does this take?

I got the orange box today, well errrr technically yesterday as it is past midnight and I am already hooked to TeamFortress 2 :D wow and the activity on the servers is insane!!! :)

Yea, and SGS though only 1 server would be fine  there are 3 and sometimes they are all full!

Maybe this is not the right thread for this but have you guys heard of the orange box region issue?

Basically Valve is enforcing region gaming through thier steam system and this burnt quite a few people who purchased the game in foreign countries.
The most public one being the current Thailand issue, where people purchased legitimate copies and took them home to somewhere other than Thailand and Valve locked the game. Valve's response was to purchase a copy of the game in your region if you want to play. As I understand it, this is a first for pc gaming although has obviously been around for many years with DVD region protection.
