orania

Yup - moving there will solve all your problems.

But seriously, if the only reason you want to move there is because you think it is safer for your children - there are plenty of other places to go to that will be just as safe if not safer. Besides if "**** spirals out of control", what makes you think that Orania will still be safe?

Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against the place or the people living there. Being able to do what you want and where you want without enforcing it upon others is what freedom is all about.

But I suspect that it being a safe place is only part of the reason you want to move there. This country is going through major changes and it is understandable that people will feel uncertain about the future. It must feel very comforting that you can move to a place where everything is the way it used to be when you were still more confident about the future.
It is natural that some people won't be able to handle the pressure of change, and indeed, this is nothing new. Some people will always resist change.

But I and many others, are more confidant and optimistic about the future of this country. I'm sure that even in the unlikely event that the situation does get worse, that we will be able to handle it. In the end life is what you make of it - no matter where you live.

you all can joke how much about orania, but once (in 2 years time) when crime has taken over SA

you will be telling a different story, and moving to orania will start looking attractive

the only reason i will move there is if i can ensure the safety of my children anymore

how many of you who ripped orania can say for a fact that they have no worries when their children are going out the evening or walking back from shcool

everyday it goes thru my mind, did my child make it safe to home from school, did he get attacked or not, is he actually safe at home

when i work late, i constantly worry is my wife and children safe at home
when i get home will they all over the place or still in one piece

What if I'm black? Can I still move there?

Do I have to learn Afrikaans before I move there?

That would be a crime in itself

I wonder who does their gardening and ironing, or building work for that matter?

AFAIK everyone in the town is white, including the builders, gardeners etc. I hear it's acctually quite a nice peaceful town.

Why would you want to live in a white only town anyway?
That totally isolates you and when the time comes to mix with people from other cultures and races ur screwed.

The other thing is, if the **** hits the fan, what makes orania so special that it wont get to them?

I only ask as my father made the observation when he was last here but . . .who would sit in the back of the bakkie?

EDIT - his statement was more indicative of the lax laws - back home you'd last 5 seconds before getting pulled over.

well, I sent them an email asking for an information pack (which they offer) so hopefully I can have a bit of a read about the place, and then make an informed decision on how I stand.

The orania model is not really sustainable... as soon as the town becomes sucessfull the rest of the population will start demanding a piece of the pie. Further, there is no way in hell they will get self determination...

Wait till the squatters move in. When the illegal immigrants hear about this nice little dorpie, they'll wanna go look for a jop. Eish!

I pity the kids, once they finish highschool, they'll have to leave their sheltered town to go and study (if their parents don't force them to take over the beetroot plaas), then they'll be in for a shock when they what the real Souf Efrika is all about.

But hey, if they're happy, who're we to judge? let them have their Utopia.
Ignorance is bliss, really.

Ja, I must say that I myself would even be really happy there (hypothetically). Its peacefull, your with your people, and nothing really goes wrong... well i guess they have their little problems, but atleast you dont expect people around you to get mugged, robbed or killed easily.

They have guards at the enterance to Orania I believe, and blacks arent allowed to spend the night.. but this might have been somehting I heard.
