Ordered - https://za.ecoflow.com/

Looking forward to the reviews.

I am very concerned about local support and getting accessories or swapping/replacing batteries etc. and warranty returns.

Also feeling a bit iffy about EcoFlow for some reason, not sure why.

Fast charging has appeal but yeah, I agree with you.

EDIT: I did see reply #82 but .................................

Do you know if the EcoFlow River Max is in stock locally? and the 160w solar panel?

(Not sure if you have a contact/work for EcoFlow :))
I can have a look for you, I am currently on leave but have portal access. Please do know that you would need to have a business account to get direct from Rectron.

Does anyone know what happens when the battery needs to be replaced? I'm deciding between this and a trolley inverter, with an inverter you can easily swop batteries but this thing seems to have the battery inside the casing?

Thanks very much, I don't have a business account :crying:

Appreciate you helping while you're on leave - ENJOY!!

Right, I'm almost too embarrassed to ask, but here goes:

Approximately how much will this cost to charge from 0 to 100% on AC at an average price of R2.20 per kWh?
  • Lithium battery power: 518Wh/144400mAh battery capacity, 500W Rated Power and 1000W Surge Power from the pure-sine wave AC port.
That is 0.5kWh. So R1.10. Plus maybe 15% charging inefficiency.

Interested in getting the Ecoflow River max unit.

Q: Does the battery expansion has to be from ecoflow or I can use any?
According to the site you need their offering as it has a special connection. I would assume someone is a Dexter and can make something work but would prob need to shuck one and check its internal workings and components used.

Also purchased two Ecoflow river Pro systems when they were busy having their christmas specials.

Was the Eco River Pro with a 160 watt portable (foldup) solar panel for the system. Was a decent price (cant remember now but was a couple of grand cheaper than normal and then with the extra panel.

Ordered it last week Tuesday and received the panels on the Thursday, was worried about the delivery of the units themselves and if they had got mixed up but it seems Buffalo express is not the brightest or smartest. I had one delivery with one solar panel and then later on the next solar panel. I only had two waybills on my system which showed that they were solar panels. So contacted them and they gave me the other waybills for the actual units, so I think they were still coming in from wherever

Just received notification that my delivery is out for delivery and will be delivered within 48 hours via sms this morning although the tracking on the system going to get it after the 25th.

Before I bought it watched a lot of american guys talking about the system and reviewing it on youtube. Most of them thought it was a great system but just were a bit skeptical for the ecoboost.

How do you find it ?

The first thing I didn't like was no ZA 3 pin plug and needing the adapters. I know I can get online - but I wanted brick & mortar. Most had ZA >>> UK but not the other way around.

Anyway - I did finally manage to get USA adapters that work, but now I see that it can't take two side by side as they're too close. So I guess I'll have to use a double adapter ...

I havent received it yet, ironically just received a call from the driver . Wanting to know where I am, he is not to far from my but he claims it is to far and so will drop it off tomorrow :crying:. Anyway excited to get the thing out and test it.

I was also worried about the adaptors required for the south Africa plugs, but it seemed the unit looked in the pictures that it had the South African plug (three round hole) connectors.

So the first loadshedding.

The backlight makes a huge difference in power consumption.

On the lowest setting, it uses under 50w and the max uses 190w. So basically between 1h20 and 5hrs

If you want a UPS, then go for a trolley. The Ecoflow is not meant to run as a UPS, its really just a big portable power bank.

Which is why I asked if @Dolby was planning to use it 'inline'.

@andreofthecape in the 'Gizzu GPS300 or Ecoflow River' thread reported that using it 'inline' killed the battery within 4 months.

The batteries inside each unit cannot be replaced. Depending on the unit that you go for, you can get extra batteries that connect to the main unit instead. These are cheaper than purchasing new units, but are still relatively costly. Again, this isn't applicable to all models, but only specific ones.

Yup if you can set local dimming to eco mode

Then any lithium-ion system is said either portable or non-portable power bank. But then anything with a battery is the same. Ecoflow have systems large enough to run a home setup in series and has solar capabilities built in. Its a little more than a power bank id say.
