Actually, I think it's a prerequisite. The ANC needs to show that it can self-correct, and in the event that they want to get rid of Zuma and reverse state capture, they must be the one to do it. Doing it would, of course, also be political suicide, so they'd need to accept the possiblity of losing the next election in return for spending the next two years repairing the damage Zuma caused.
Again, I think this wouldn't be the case. Behind the scenes, deals would be struck with Zuma's inner circle to promise them lowered sentences with the chance to keep their ill-gotten gains. Keep in mind, last time there were nine abstentions from the secret ballot. All that would be required is for those nine to join in, and four more ANC members would need to vote with the opposition, and the vote of no confidence would go through.
My thoughts too. Cyril could put us out of our misery and have Zuma removed, but it would come at great cost to what little stability we have in parliament now. The best thing he can do is isolate Zuma from his inner circle by assigning an NPA head who is not biased towards Zuma, and to have the party insist that Zuma allows Justice Moegeng to start the Nkandla/State capture enquiry.
