OUCH :( Eskom bill

We consumed roughly 1000kwh before solar and paid roughly R3k, something is wierd with your bill.

With solar, we halved the bill

I'm using 420 kwh per month with two people and a solar geyser so the numbers check out for a family of 4. All units charged at R1.83 by Eskom

I'm on track for about 600kwh with the solar this month. Normal bill is around 34kwh day average ( a lot of that was aircon in the day, its cooler now but even if we run the aircon, on sunny days the solar covers it - inverter aircons ftw )

Worked out with the new rate next month is going to be around R6000.00 for 1000 units =R6 a unit

Bloody hell.

The actual rate isn't that bad. It's the fees for an open meter and the line costs that pushes that bill up.

Living in a townhouse in the city is worse. Eskom > Tshwane > NuDor > Me works out about R2.75 per kWh.

What is the above donation for? You been paying every month? Seems u have free cash to throw into drain if this is what you have been paying every month.

Some at my workplace boast about paying 4-7k EB per month. I see them as a bunch of fools

Which area is this? That's truly appalling.
Rural Farm area,

Spoke to nice lady at a eskom office. Its about R4k to switch to 60A prepaid but here is the baller. This is what I am going to pay per unit.

Also if I do go prepaid they won't upgrade you again ( just saying)
I need to get my units down with solar before going prepaid

So I need sort out my solar ASAP.. then move over to prepaid

If you went for solar, you would only save R2232 maximum per month. Its half fixed charges!

For about R180 000 you could get solar that would save you about 500-600 kWh a month.
Would be nice if I could feed back to the grid but eskom being nasty about it

OP said he lives on a farm, so it makes sense. Heavy machinery.
yea but going to find out what is the biggest users and get them down as low as possible before a switch, I have some old freezer very old freezer that might need to go

somebody has to pay for the Whiskey by the pallet-load, and the mclaren for the power station managers.

all those 200K mops and all those cooked invoices all add up to this, prices that are simply ridiculous.
