Friend of mine just went prepaid.

Eskom said it’s done. And then last week sent him a bill for R29k for fees related to the downgrade from postpaid to prepaid…
That's hectic. It cost my mother just under 3k to switch to prepaid. I'm lucky as I had it put in from the start on a new build, so just paid a small admin fee of a few hundred.

City Power charges R700, how could they charge 3k?

Sheesh and I thought Ethekwheni was bad. We pay 2.24 ex Vat kwh but don't have all those other charges.

Worked out with the new rate next month is going to be around R6000.00 for 1000 units =R6 a unit

Bloody hell.
R100/day daily charges (41.02 and 49.39) ...
R2.30/kWh (R1.85+0.46 + few-c)

So whatever you do, don't go "solar" without sorting out the tariff... More than half your bill is daily charges.

There is a charge to downgrade on their miscellaneous tariff section of their site.

Yeah something is a miss.

He did mention they had to re-install the whole meter outside as it couldn't do prepaid. I wonder if they didn't just offload the bill for it to him?

you have electricty? :P

My bill so low this month, i have spare units left.

My geyser is auto off, only switch on when needed.

Those daily charges are weird. Never heard of those. Where are you and who is giving you that bill?

If you went for solar, you would only save R2232 maximum per month. Its half fixed charges!

For about R180 000 you could get solar that would save you about 500-600 kWh a month.
