Interesting to see how we stack up in terms of data cost against this latest news just in from the UK:

"Three of the UK's 3G networks are going head-to-head in a bid to tempt customers to make use of mobile internet access by slashing prices to £5 [about R80] per month for a 2.8 megabits per second (Mbps) connection. The Broadband Lite service, which is currently being offered by 3 is an 18-month contract that features 1GB of downloads per month and the latest Huawei E169G high-speed downlink packet access (HSDPA) modem or 'dongle' thrown in for no extra charge."

Admittedly UK rates were stupidly high because of the bandwidth bidding war which cost their networks obscene amounts of money when allocations were being made. But they are finally waking up to the need to tempt folks away from fixed-line with seriously attractive pricing. Anybody listening here?

There wont be real competition here - it's preordained.

I personaly wonder if this will affect the roaming agreements between their networks and our local networks. I highly doubt that :( But it is very good news for the Pommies :)

Thing is their data prices are the same for payg :
(The 3gb offer seems ok for the price )

This makes me sad panda :'(

I was pretty much starting to feel ripped off since the expected rate cuts in April never happened... now I feel like transferring data via carrier pigeon. Them old folks were on to something after all.

Have you even ever tried to use Three(3) or there customer service in Bangladesh, or did you know that alot of three's netwrok piggy backs on 02 they have always tried to cut costs on line rental but there actual service sucks i know i sold it for 2 years @ phones4u..... yuk :(

@ld13: If you're interested you might be able to purchase one of them off eBay in the UK - another big inconvenience due to the lack of PayPal access in SA!

Err, I buy stuff using PayPal all the time.

Im with 3 here in the UK, awesome is all I can say.Free skype calls/msn on your phone, 250 video call minutes for free and for 5 pound extra u got unlimited internet on ur phone.

It's local only and you're not allowed to use more than 10 times the average of all users.

My apologies, on closer inspection it appears that this Vodafone Netherlands offer is probably one of the worst examples anywhere in the world. I don't think that it's only local only but the maximum use appears to be 50MB per *month* - so I assume that the average use is just 5MB per *month*!!!. Here is the feedback from some of the disgruntled Dutch customers. Sounds very similar to the feedback for the R49 per month iBurst package. What a misleading offer ...
