Our Improvements.

Below is the data used to calculate your download speed:

Download time: 2.413 seconds
Size of file: 500 KiloBytes
Estimated line speed: 1690.8 (kilobits/second)
Estimated line speed: 207.2 (kiloBytes/second)

Andre, running a 500kb file size test on a 1 meg line doesn't give correct statistics, i suggest you run with file sizes higher than 1 meg. Use Telkom's HTTP speed test and FTP test and then work from there. You will soon see it's not all THAT.

Your Improvements?

Well i think the improvements are much slower speed,geting max of 200kbps download,disconecting like every 20 seconds,like you cant even open a web page...etc.etc.etc.etc...
Shaun is that the improvements on Iburst?
I think the answer would be YES! :mad:

Below is the data used to calculate your download speed:

* Download time: 4.703 seconds
* Size of file: 500 KiloBytes
* Estimated line speed: 867.5 (kilobits/second)
* Estimated line speed: 106.3 (kiloBytes/second)

I couldn't get above 80kbps during working hours over the last week. Whether this test is totally accurate or not is beside the point.

The speed is back.

I'd like ALL of the speed to be back. Getting 80k local as suppose to 8k is definitely better, but it must improve. I hope we're not in for a 'well things are better, aren't they?' from them, and then that's what it stays at...
Maybe tomorrow...but for now, thank you.

I've got a glorified dial-up modem, but hey, at least it's always on and not Telkom?

Below is the data used to calculate your download speed:

Download time: 66.596 seconds
Size of file: 500 KiloBytes
Estimated line speed: 61.3 (kilobits/second)
Estimated line speed: 7.5 (kiloBytes/second)

Are you capped that your speed is so low? I'm still getting close to 1Mbit.

Winzip90.exe from ftp.download.com

2361.2K 34 seconds 69.4K/s Multithreaded
2361.2K 56 seconds 42.1K/s Singlethreaded

nope Im not capped at all, if I use a multithreaded download , then its 2 megs in 55 seconds, and thats with 10 threads. This also presume that WBS has not cached the file locally.

Okay, but the difference in our speeds are probably due to signal strength and other local considerations. Yesterday I wouldn't have gotten anything like this speed until after 6.30pm. I don't think things are quite back to where they were, but it is an improvement.

The question about capping was for Kingrob, he's only getting 7.5KB/s local.

Jis Gatecrasher,

I'm living just outside Irene village in Centurion, so I guess that's might be why I'm not getting fast downloads. Might have to invest in one of those external antenna jobbies....

Below is the data used to calculate your download speed:

Download time: 39.987 seconds
Size of file: 500 KiloBytes
Estimated line speed: 102 (kilobits/second)
Estimated line speed: 12.5 (kiloBytes/second)

I'm currently downloading cygwin from somewhere in America (I think) and I’m getting about 72k/s which is awesome! Tomorrow I’m working from home and will be able to test the speeds (and availability of SSL/SSH) during office hours. Thanks WBS!

I noticed that their capping system works properly now. I get a max speed of 12KB/s now with an average of 7KB/s.

Below is the data used to calculate your download speed:

* Download time: 28.64 seconds
* Size of file: 500 KiloBytes
* Estimated line speed: 142.5 (kilobits/second)
* Estimated line speed: 17.5 (kiloBytes/second)

Hi Shaun

I'm in Durbs, probably within a kilometre of the tower and I'm very happy, maybe there are a lot less users here in Durbs sharing the bandwidth? :D

FYI here are the results of the HTTP speed test I ran last night:

* Download time: 3.46 seconds
* Size of file: 500 KiloBytes
* Estimated line speed: 1179.2 (kilobits/second)
* Estimated line speed: 144.5 (kiloBytes/second)

BTW, seems like Telkom started blocking my current IP...

While trying to retrieve the URL: http://www.telkom.co.za/

The following error was encountered:

* Connection Failed

The system returned:

(111) Connection refused

Cant log on to telkom either..just times out. Down yesterday aswell.
