Our old flag

Did you go to school in south africa during the apartheid years? The national party allocated educational budget according to the following rules. R100 per white child, R50 per indian child, R25 per "other races" and R10 per black child. Think about that and then say again you gained nothing. But that is a discussion for another day.

As for the ban and burn it brigade I can only shake my head. I am white and will always be white. If it reminds you of a past regime and your only solution is ban and burn I see a dark future for the country.

I think I have answered your question above.

The government did this country allot of wrong and allot of good. My folks paid for Themba's school fee's. He got a scholarship from the UK to study Engineering. Because he wanted to. that is a very sad excuse.

It is true, Indians do not complain today, they just build and create wealth accepting no excuses, no matter the circumstances. I plan to work for an Indian man December, because he is such an impressive business man. I hope I can learn from him, as should all Afrikaners and whatever else.

ba da bish!

[1] I feel relatively safe poking fun at the Indians as they seem capable of taking a cultural joke aimed at themselves.
:D

Ok, am taking a break, before this thread gets closed. I like the old flag, the new flag to a lesser extent. I'm prouder of the first, than the 2nd.

If I were a black man, I would hate the old flag for Apartheid, but love it for its history and the benefits the current generation can enjoy because of my suffering and the privileged position they are in, because of the previous government. I would not waive the flag myself, but I would not remove it from history or deny anyone else the patriotic moment of hoisting it.

lol. He asked me why I do not have a criminal record, I responded I have not had the opportunity to steal yet. Hope he looks past that, as I will serve in a position of trust, though I'm pretty sure he will hire me. :)

I was making a joke, though joking about stealing during an interview, is a bit weird.

Of course, it doesn't. You wouldn't allow it to mean a thing to you. You do not want to move forward and embrace some real change. You want things to change but still remain the same, them you and your elk will be happy. However, life doesn't work that way.
I didn't know there were elks in South Africa, not to mention that you are allowed to keep them as pets.
That flag is a bad bad symbol and should be banned.
No. Just because it is perceived as 'bad' does not mean it should be banned. If you start banning things on the basis of perception then you may as well kiss your free press goodbye.
Those who yearn for the good old day's of priviledge should raise it at the remotest of farms in the company of Roodt and Terreblanche.
Everybody should yearn for improvement of life. Correcting the imbalances of the past is not necessarily achieved by taking from the one and giving to the other.
Personally, I think this ubuntu of the darkies has prevented them from doing the right thing and banning that thing as welll as making racism an offence
With all due respect, Black people can be racist too (and are).
one can go to jail or prison for, let them become wifes for some really bad okes.:D
Oh dear.

I just find it so funny that the people complaining about apartheid in this thread is ignoring my last post.

That in it self explains alot. Now stop whining and go work on your future !

Leave us be.... :p

You're so right!!! I mean tarred roads are such an inconvenience

No use in trying to convince someone they are wrong after they have been brain washed into believing the White man is bad. Africa can't and will never change .... That is just the sad fact. SA will follow ZIM till someone takes a stand and say. enough is enough. Stop crying and looking back. Retain your heritage and pull forward as a unity... Which of course will never happen

You must not have visited the townships before 1994, very little tarred road to speak off. Just on the main roads. I grew up in the dusty streets of Bochabela and it was only in 1998 that they tarred most of the road there.

You must have talking about the suburbs.

Strange, the farm roads are still sand roads, I don't see your point. I guess all those ZCC buses travelling up to Limpopo travel along the long and sandy N1?

Yeah, it's strange (or not) how things like NEPAD are all about give me, give me, give me. Never once has it been about partnerships.

edc: if my gf comes to visit me I always ride home behind her, just to make sure she doesn't get hijacked and isn't alone when she gets to her driveway. It's 20ks each way, but worth it for the one day that she actually needs someone to be there.

No flag means a damned thing to me. I was too young under the old flag for it to have gained value, and the new government seems set to alienate me in my own country. I can't respect a regime that shows me nothing but contempt around every corner.

Do you want to know why I don't just leave? Because I come from an underpriveleged background too, and I can't afford to leave. I've had to pay for my schooling, pay for a place to stay, pay for my transport. It costs to set up a life from scratch. It takes hard work.

I love this country, but it is not mine. It has disowned me. Why then should a flag matter? Perhaps some find it comforting to look at the old flag and remember the days when they belonged. Not me. I have no flag. I have no country, and nowhere to belong. For all the talk of reconciliation, this country's policies have turned to nothing more or less than exclusion. Old grudges live, yes. On both sides. But what are the people like me supposed to do, belonging to neither?

So true!

You see...that is exactly where you have it wrong in this discussion my friend.

You speak of my parents and your parents. You forget about you and me!!! Just to remind you... I don't have ample employment opportunity because of reverse racism and reverse apartheid - they call this Employment equity these days. My parents had access to all of the things you mentioned, not me.

Maybe your parents didn't have access to a lot of things, but the fact of the matter is, that you now have more privilages than my parents had!! Stop living in the history in live today!!!!!! This goverment is nothing better that the pervious - in fact they are worse!!

Nothing you say now will change the fact that what happend did infact happen. But what you say now, may infact change what might have happend tomorrow. So stop with this and rather stand together and try to better tomorrow - not for yourself or you brother, but for your kids and my kids - whether they are black, white, indian, chinese, japanese, vietnamese, mexican, british or what ever...

I had to highlight the indian community...think for a second. Have your ever heard the indian people complain about the previous goverment? No!!! Its only the black man that complain about it...(no pun intended). So, follow their example and execpt the fact and use it to correct tomorrow...

Indians played a major role in bringing down appartheid!!

Ye we/they are!! :D

Oh and good luck, some of them are good to work for, most are just bad!

In which year are we now ?

Where do you live now ?

If still in the Township it's your own fault ... Once again.

edit: btw. That building your sitting in now.... the road u travel to work every day... that is what he was referring to.

Ok let me ask you guys a question and answer it truth fully

100% of the White people under the old flag would at that stage in history leave their loved 1's @ home to go and defend their country and their flag.
Any 1 here that is pre-paired to it today for our new country and the new flag ?
Do you think that all whites supported apartheid and the old flag...?
