South Africa’s new driver’s licence points demerit system will fail like E-tolls

If South Africa’s roads authorities press on with the rollout of the Administrative Adjudication of Road Traffic Offences (Aarto) without making revisions, it will fail just like E-tolls.

This is the warning from the CEO of the Organisation Undoing Tax Abuse (Outa), Wayne Duvenage.

“As far as we are concerned, the Road Freight Association (RFA), the SA Vehicle Renting and Leasing Association (Savrala), the Automobile Association (AA), Outa and many others have indicated that Aarto will fail, yet the authorities believe otherwise,” Duvenage said.

“Just as they did with the launch of E-tolls, they ignored their critics and blindly believed that if the law is written, the scheme must work.”
 
It will fail worse then e-tolls imho, the current fine system at least works sometimes, AARTO will basically push all citizens to ignore it and cops will be motivated to make up stuff for bribes (since moves from innocent until proven guilty, you get fine and then court date to be able to contest, to you get fine and points, then need to lodge an appeal as to why it should be revoked but still have points meantime).

Sure let's double down on a flawed system before realising it's a failure. Standard operating procedure for the ANC so far that has worked so well for them.

The biggest problem is also not the law. We have regular drag races here yet the cops do nothing.

So 99% of minibus taxi drivers will be hunted down and brought to book in no time?? And pigs with wings might fly out of Zoopta's ass. I'm betting on the latter happening first.
 
The government never listens to experts. Then everything they touch fail and they don't seem to know why.
 
worthless complaining, honestly the ANC exists in an echo chamber and does what it wants to do, not caring if its a terrible idea.

rename places, aarto, Etolls, EWC,
vote stupid parties into power, get stupid results.

look where it took you to,

so OUTA/DA/other parties can scream to high heaven, but Zuma just laughs, as he knows he cant fail.
 
Oh no. We know how well government systems works! Just look at NATIS and driver licenses ...

These guys have these grandiose illusions of systems, no idea how to implement them so that they're efficient and incorruptible. Ultimately it's us that face the result.

Even now, I have an ongoing dispute ongoing regarding a speeding fine. Drove 100 in a 80 zone. Where are your speeding signs. It's back on the route. We drive back, nope, speed signs missing. Plenty before the junction where I turned onto the road, a provincial road, not built up etc. No - but that's a municipal issue. I have to run around, get a representation notarized ... because of a failing on their frigging side. The saga continues and will to court if need be.

I have sooo much confidence in these guys that can't even organize a pee-up in a brewery.

The biggest flaw with the points demerit system is that there is no way for a law enforcement officer to actually know how many points you currently have on your licence.
 
Erm yeah buckle up dorothy ... South Africa is gonna fail like the e-toll system.

Taxis are exempted. Officially or otherwise. The industry knows that it's impossible to negotiate with the ANC.
 
I know of a person, who's a "friend of a friend", got away with drunken driving twice, both times, his car was written off, he wrapped it around a pole and second time, a tree. He was taken to public hospital both times, stayed for 2 days, no record whatsoever. How will Aarto change that?
