Started today - receiving an error in Outlook when trying to download email using the POP method.

Standard gmail accounts as well as Google apps email accounts.

Anyone know why and/or how to fix?

Error code: 0x800ccc92

Username and password are correct and works fine in browser.

Was just about to come here and post, having same issues on 3 different accounts, Outlook password prompt box keeps popping up...

Usually when this happens toggling on/off "allow access from less secure sites" remedies the issue but I can't access those settings currently. Get "setting could not be read" error message...

Seems like an issue from Gmail side - problem resolved by itself a couple hours after it started without any other intervention.

Google made some changes to the security settings. I also sorted it with the "allow access" setting. So frustrating how badly Gmail plays with Outlook though.

Had same issue. Luckily solved itself.

For some reason the "less secure settings" disappeared from account settings page.

We also spotted this in the last few weeks with some clients using Gmail and our servers for sending. We believe it has to do with Google/Gmail forcing the use of secure settings with TLS/SSL.

I have had a problem with Gmail/Outlook since yesterday. This is with a POP3 account.
"Receiving reported error (0x800CCC1A): "Your server does not support the connection encryption type----"
Sometimes it goes through sometimes not.

Anyone having issues sending and receiving using Outlook 2019? I'm getting the pop up username and password authentication box when trying to send/receive.. this must be related to Google's policy change regarding gmail accounts and what is considered unsecure 3rd party apps.

The remedy in the past is to toggle 'allow unsecure apps' from on to off and back to on, but I see this feature has now been disabled/discontinued in line with their policy change!!!

What now??

Do you have 2FA enabled ?
If so you need to create a password for use in apps. using the main account password will trigger 2FA and will fail.

Just enabled it now... thanks for the heads up. Let me see where I can create that in app password...

And done, thanks, saved me a ton of scratching around...

@Zuner I'm not following - so I've setup 2FA now on my account and I obviously get an error when trying to download mails on my POP3 / Outlook 365.

What password am I supposed to then use now that 2FA is enabled?

How do I fix this? What am I missing?

Ok, figured it out.

So the "App Password" feature isn't there till I enabled 2FA.
Once I enabled it, went back, it was there, then I set that up and it worked.
I replaced the password in Outlook 365 with that "special" password and it worked.

That's it, though I would think that if 2FA is not enabled using the main account credentials should have worked. I haven't played with that i just know that if 2FA is enabled which i mean it should be, then you need that app password or whatever its official name is.

I have also found that, if you copy your .pst file to your laptop and use Office Outlook on the laptop, you will need that 2FA password.
