When I killed the laptop to install Win 7 I forgot to backup my PST's to recover to the Win 7 installation.

I do have quite a bit of emails that I've attached to reports throughout the year that I know I can open and save the messages to disk to then import back into a PST file for my records.

Is there any freeware that can do this or if I install Ms Exchange System manager would there be some magic exe that would assist me.

The only tool I found sofar which is shareware and does 5 messages at a time is Outlook Import Wizard -> http://www.outlookimport.com/ which is severly limiting at this point in time.

huh?

where are these e-mails with the reports attached? In what program are they?

I got eg 1 report with 10 emails from Outlook from previous discussions attached. I have all these reports on my laptop. I can go into the report and save the embedded emails but would like to stick them into a PST file for easier future access and management there-of.

Outlook by design does not allow you to import a *.msg file back into a PST (external programs do this as per my 1st post) unless Ms Exchange 2007 System Manager or the Exchange Management Tools have this ability.

so you formatted over your previous PST file? What kind of format did you do?

Did you have any back-ups?

Send those reports with attachments to yourself. Once they're in your sent items, you can move them where ever you want inside Outlook.

Make sense?

I killed the partitions and then used Win7's installer to create a new partition.
I ran NTFS Undelete which picked up a few things but not 3 X 4gb PST files.

I have the emails I want to recover to a new PST (this emails are embedded in Word 2007 documents) and all the emails are now saved to a single folder.

All I want to do is merge them / add them to a PST.

This won't work.

However I had a brainwave from a colleague/supplier

I simply opened the folder where I saved the messages and then dragged a specific message from the folder to the relevant PST in Outlook.

:):)

Drag & Drop FTW :D:D:D:D:D:D

Now to find out how to save multiple embedded attachments in a word document to a folder (not one by one)
I currently have to open each message and then resave them to a folder before dragging them back to Outlook.

Send those reports with attachments to yourself. Once they're in your sent items, you can move them where ever you want inside Outlook.

Why are you embedding things in your Word documents?

Anyway, you should maybe think of backing up your email to an online mail client in the future. To avoid this kind of trouble.

At work to prove that a conversation or interaction takes place we embed things in documents where proof is required for reporting purposes and this is sent internally to NAS devices and are then reviewed when the bigger bosses require it (why this is done and how effective it is over wireless or wired lan is not the point of the discussion and I am sure that we all well aware of backup strategies)

Due to a stupid oversight on my part while I was cutting a Win 7 ISO to disc I forgot to copy my PST's over to a network share.

None the less I have the information that is relevant to me and saved the files 1 by 1 since there was not that much many.
