Hey All

I been using Iburst for a couple months and just now found this forum, its like finding a long lost family member. I am actually in Beirut, Lebanon, thousands of miles away from all of you but hope that the forum can still help me.

I am using iburst pcmcia on my laptop, have been happily enjoying the wireless connection while draining my bank account, it is not cheap here :(
I have a dual boot running XP and Kubuntu Edgy. Setting up Iburst on XP was quite simple as was on Linux once I found the Ibdriver HOWTO on the ubuntu forums. I cant however monitor the signal or usage because of the lack of application to do so, hence my post.

Will eyeburst, or alternative, work even though I am using it here?
Is there an eyeburst HowTo for Linux? Sorry but I am still a linux newbie and rely much on thorough instructions...

All help appreciated and hope I am welcomed here.

Welcome mojo, first time I've seen an overseas iBurster here :)

I don't know much about Linux, but eyeBurst works with Java, the point being that you could run it on Linux or any OS in fact.

There is areadme that comes with the program, might include install instructions.

Hey It's not true. I'm an iBurst user from Norway and I've posted heere before :)

wow overseas iburster besides SA and AUS I'm amazed... what speeds do you guys get? 1Mbps? or more?

SA is actually leading with iBurst now, more towers than Aus even.. I'm sure our service level is near the bottom though, mostly bandwidth wise :(

Afaik we are actually going to get the 2mb upgrade first because it is being done here? That's what it sounded like from the press releases..

can anyone suggest a means of selling a fairly new UTD modem (grey)?

(i didn't want to start a new thread)

;>

iBurst is gonna get 2Mbps? When is that planned for?

I've also heard about the famous RUMOURED 2Mbps connection yet I haven't seen any press release or confirmation in writing... So until my concept of "Seeing is Believing" comes first. I will not believe in anything :(

I hope iburst can implement something like this:

Hi I would like to query a comment:

'“iBurst shapes network traffic so that all applications and data types have a fair share of the available bandwidth based on the relative demand providing preference to protocols and applications which are interactive in nature, in order to optimize users’ online experience,” said Antony McKechnie, Head of Product Development at iBurst. '

Question: Would it not benefit Iburst to arrange a server for files that pass through your servers to be stored, thus reducing traffic conjestion to the international link?

Well well.. thanks for the warm welcome, more than I expected...:D I hear CapeTown is really cool, its on top of my list.
Great White cage diving!!!

What are the prices like?

Here is a link to our local ISP, Mobi, using iBurst scroll down, the prices are in US$ so it should be easy to convert to your local currency. When I got my iburst connection there were only claims of supplying 1Mbps so I settled for 512 for speed, I couldn't afford the 1mb anyways.

So I pay $88 US for 512 limited download of 2.5G. :( I know thats alot. Oh and I paid 200$ for the PC card in addition. I begun looking for a night job.

What are your prices like?

2Mbs that must be cool.

Not many Linux users on this forum it seems...

i really dont think there 5mhz (or however much they have)of spectrum can support a whole neighbourhood of iburst users at 2mbps!!! that spectrum is shared and if everyone is on its all divided up equally!!! 2mbps highly unlikely

:(

Thats more or less what I said awhile back, iBurst can hardly supply 1mbps to the majority of it's customers so I doubt very much that many except a few will ever see 2mbps, and even then those will probably only see 2mbps for very short periods if they are lucky.
