Hello All
I am 30 years old and I've been working in IT for 12+ years.

I am looking for overseas opportunities, either temporary or permanent.
Where do I start looking?
Are there recruitment agencies in SA that recruit for overseas companies?
Most of the agencies I've seen deal with the hospitality and teaching sectors.

Any help would be great

Thanks

Just keep in mind that most decent countries that pay a good salary for IT aren't sponsoring visas etc unless you are truly exceptional.

To give you an example, many people still think they can get a visa sponsored by a company in Australia, where in fact they aren't even willing to entertain you for a position unless you are currently in Australia and can go to an interview face to face and have your visas sorted. Yes there are exceptions but this seems to be more of the rule rather than the exception nowadays.

Best bet is to join a foreign company with a local branch. This goes for any country.

If you're interested though, I think New Zealand is likely the easiest one to get into in the anglosphere. Plus, after two years and permanent resident status you can move to Australia. I'd try to do that if I wanted to get into Australia - which I don't.

I'd love to move to the USA, but opportunities are insanely difficult to come by.

What recruiters operate there? Any websites one can visit? Ill send my cv and hope and pray....

I'm also looking now. I don't need visa sponsorship, and I could even swing it without relocation assistance with some family help. I'

In all seriousness I'd probably sell my kidney for a job at Microsoft in Redmond.

A sizable chunk of my CS university colleagues got recruited to go there. MS is doing something right - all of them are still there, one going on 17 years now. They're very familiar with hiring SAffers, so I wouldn't say it would necessarily require a kidney :).

Perhaps there are IT specific recruiters?

I ended up going via a recruiter that literally does nothing except move SA guys in my field (finance) overseas.

Thanks,
Wondering about all those oil and gas rigs though? How does one find work there?

Just do some proper research on the country before you commit.

I just declined an offer of N$110k in Auckland because our lifestyle would take a very serious downgrade:

- Housing is insanely expensive (esp. in Auckland)
- Most houses are in bad repair and owners don't care as theres a shortage
- Many house are freezing inside.
- Builders / Plumber / Electricians are very expensive and tend to do half a job as there is a shortage.
- Food is about 60% more
- Taxes a little less
- Public medical is usable but nothing close to Private care in SA - private medical is insanely expensive
- Public schools better than here for sure but not as wonderful as they make you think.

What will your spouse earn? I'm trying to figure out the combined household income?
