P2P/downloads/local

Ok so we have say 100 guys on local torrents who've been doing that for a while. I'm going to assume they have a lot of the same stuff since they've been going for a while.

Let's say a new guy joins and leeches like a mofo. 30 gigs later and evry one of those 100 guys have had to upload 3.3 gigs to supply him. Isn't the whole point of torrents that you dont need a 1:1 ratio so you can grab from a 100 guys and only get a little bit from each?

I understand that everyone needs to contribute otherwise the whole system falls flat cause you cant just have leechers. Why not institute different ratios based on how the guy uploads? Start him off high and go lower once he proves himself. Still dont see that you need a 1:1 ratio though.

Luckily this is all theoretical for me. Uncapped international and giganews ftw!
 
i know torrents you have to get from everybody else, but it all local,, and its not even expensive, and what about the newshost server you dont have to share their. Who's newshost is it anyway?

the only thing what new host does is tell you whats cached or not, you dont need them at all to download NZB's all you need is
news.is.co.za or news.saix.net and those are the news servers, which are so slow it takes you weeks to get anything, IMO stick with ftp or torrents
local news servers are failing hard

I havn't seen ppl try so hard to steal stuff. Get the stolen series and movies from your friends if you so desperate. What are portable hard drives for anyways?

maaan some of us enjoy having things when they come out.
i do 90 gigs a month of just downloads, i only know a few other people that do this. i am the guy that every one pops by over the weekend for new series and ****
 
ok so i made abit of progress, and found something that i wanted. i got the nbz file and things never worked then i tried a whole bunch of settings all over the place. eventually i go into grabit and i see 1 article is downloading and another 2 are trying to connect and all others have timed out.

so it seems to be working just not 100 %

you have to keep retrying hoping it catches on to a connect and it comes through...so you just have to baby the thing...sucks really but oh well

i noticed on the little bar below i get alot of spikes where it will download then it wont then it will download and then it wont...up down up down...why is that?
i got some articles early this morning at almost full speed but this afternoon is really bad

how do you get local torrents,,, thats where you have share?

Those spikes happens if you download something thats not cached on the server... try sticking to something thats new, you will get full speeds.

To get local torrents you have to be invited.
 
but its wierd then cause some articles came through at really almost full speed. and not that many spikes. i suppose less people could have been using it at the time.

and i think i have got something that is pretty new.
 
As far as I know new content only stays new for like a week... then you will get that ****ty speed spikes.
 
i'm going to need people to stop downloading on the saix server.. i need some stuff to come through fast.....please take one for the team guys....lol

There are no invites to NewsHost (but you can get the NZBs elsewhere)

.. and you are way too much of a n00b for an invite to BitFarm. Stick around until we know you better! ;)
 
if i have downloaded something from uncached, does that mean it now stays on the saix server and the next person who downloads it gets its cached, or does he need the same nzb file as me?

Yes, same NZB file... and it will usually only stay there for an hour or two... unless lots of ppl keep downloading the same file.
 
so,,,, anybody can start there own website just like news host does? or just email the nzb files to thier friends quickly.

also why are people not allowed to use this news host site if the files come from something that is not even theirs. to me it sounds like the more people giving more nzb files the more cached files you can get.....

If the server had infinite capacity, then more people would mean more cached stuff. Unfortunately the server is limited in both HDD Capacity and Connection throughput. :(

Imagine a news server with a 10Mb line, 1GB HDD space. 10 People could make the world difficult for each other if they download different things, unknowingly uncaching the stuff that was just cached. Also the more people join, the Worse it gets! Both in terms of cached content and speed to the server.
