Hi,

Read about Chiropractors being able to help new borns with colicy windy crying and parents say that it helped their little ones a lot..

Anyone in the Cape Town area taken their little one to a Chiropractor for colicy windy crying and it helped..? And can recommend someone..?

Woo Woo. Please don't. You can cause your child permanent damage. Go to a professional medical doctor.

We used Jeremy Guymarans (sp? was a long time ago) in Rivonia.

As recommended by our Pediatrician. (to appease LL)

Daughter had colic really bad, we were going nuts too. 1 15 minute session with Jeremy & problem solved.

Children have wind and coughs and cry.

It's perfectly normal.

To go against that is to basically say you don't want your kid to be a human.

OP is talking about colic, not normal winds.

OK, he is talking about both... Wife is a NICU nurse and she reckons it is not unusual for a paed chiro to help babies with bad colic. Allegedly it really helps.

Must say I don't like the thought of someone manipulating my spine or whatever they do. Cringe at the thought of it being done to a baby.

And colic is the cop out to give something a name that is pretty much normal for a lack of being able to put a finger on anything.

Colic is the name people give it when parents can't deal.

Pretty normal for babies to have that. Most of them do.

Either way a chiropractor is NOT the solution.

Utter nonsense. Very few babies have colic. Most have wind. Colic is an extreme version of wind & is painful for the child which is why they cry.

Son - normal wind, no problems.
Daughter - colic. Bad. 15 minute session with Chiro & problem solved. If it was "normal" how could a chiro resolve it & provide relief for the child?

professional medical doctors don't know what causes colic and have no treatment for it though

So you go to a quack instead...

I'm all for chiropractors in certain conditions...but not for treating babies and definitely not for colic.

Go watch a certain episode of Bull**** before you expose your kids to this quackery.

Yes, we can all learn everything we need to know from television!

This is especially laughable when quackery is at play.

Bull**** is a skeptic show disproving the efficacy of these things and how laughable they really are.

I've seen the series, it's entertaining but it's often bull**** just like their subject matter. I've no opinion on chiropractors dealing with colic, because I don't know enough about either chiropractors or colic. Many people have reported having had success with it though, even if the science is lacking, and it's not like scientific medicine has any alternative treatment to offer. If they did I would definitely recommend it over chiropractic medicine.

Yeah people report that homeopathy also works...

If your pediatrician recommended a chiropractor then you need a new pediatrician.
Please keep your babies the hell away from chiropractors.
At best they will provide a wonderfully comforting placebo effect for you and your baby while lightening your wallet. At worst they will do permanent damage.

Yes, you should definitely trust some anonymous random guy on the internet over your medically qualified pediatrician - makes total sense

Best you're not on Discovery Medical Aid then.

Our paed colsed his practice & joined Discovery as their chief medical officer.

As I've stated before, which you clearly were unable/unwilling to read: A single 15 minute session for my daughter with the chiro resolved the colic issues forever. That was 14 years ago.

Would you like to explain how the placebo effect manifests on a 5 month old child?

The placebo effect doesn't act on the child, it acts on the parents. The parents believed that the Colic was really bad before, and then after the treatment they believed that it had cleared up.

The same Discovery who has just uncovered R500m in fraudulent claims?

I bet the Chiropractors are right at the top of that list...

As for the the placebo effect it works the same as it does in Homeopathy. Chiropractors take the time to listen to the parents and take their issues seriously and comforts them through conversation and understanding.

Whether the actual treatment does anything remains to be seen.

I should note though that I'm not all out against Chiropractors as whole, but it's statistically a very dangerous and questionable treatment to apply to babies and children.
