Paediatric Chiropractor

Go to a real dr, also colic can be really frustrating but having someone snap your childs back or neck over it isn't the answer. There are things you could try do to relieve the symptoms, but it might not even be colic, it could be baby isn't getting enough milk (don't think breast is best, fed is best), they might be allergic to something etc. A baby can't tell you what's wrong so it cries, you need to figure out what it might be.

As I've stated before, which you clearly were unable/unwilling to read: A single 15 minute session for my daughter with the chiro resolved the colic issues forever. That was 14 years ago.

Yes I did read your personal anecdote regarding your daughter, and I treated it as a personal anecdote. These mean nothing when it comes to recommending medical treatment for others.
If you’re into personal anecdotes, here’s some more for you:
Both my daughters suffered from colic. Both of them spontaneously recovered as they matured. If someone like my paediatrician (who I view as an authority) recommended a chiro, and my daughter spontaneously recovered after seeing one, I would be suffering from the same bias as you are.
There have been a few controlled studies of manipulative treatment of cholic. Some showing statistical significance and some not. Luckily there has already been a Cochrane meta-analysis of the studies. They state that the combined results did not show statistical significance:

No clinically significant likelihood of improvement coupled with the risks of permanent damage makes recommending chiro for colic very poor medical advice.

The ignorance in this thread is astounding. While I completely understand there may be complete nutters when it comes to chiro's treating babies there is usefulness for treatments in certain cases.

Both our little ones were c-sections babies and I would have been as sceptical as anyone else here beforehand but after two sessions for the youngest we basically had a different baby. The change was amazing but for c section babies at least they apparently don't get to stretch out as they don't endure normal birth and can remain in a cramped position.

The Chiro was incredibly gentle and no ruk and plukking was done just gently massaging the spine etc.

I wouldn't go to anyone though and he came highly recommended from friends who went through the same with him (Dr Peyton Bryanston/Fourways JHB).

Unfortunately there is no scientific evidence that shows almost breaking your babies back will help at all.

Hi,

Read about Chiropractors being able to help new borns with colicy windy crying and parents say that it helped their little ones a lot..

Anyone in the Cape Town area taken their little one to a Chiropractor for colicy windy crying and it helped..? And can recommend someone..?

Absolutely no !

Its criminal, they do manipulations on kids and break their necks !

Utter nonsense. Very few babies have colic. Most have wind. Colic is an extreme version of wind & is painful for the child which is why they cry.

Son - normal wind, no problems.
Daughter - colic. Bad. 15 minute session with Chiro & problem solved. If it was "normal" how could a chiro resolve it & provide relief for the child?

Colic is not a documented condition in any journal.

Who the **** is breaking backs..? Did you not read what I typed? Tell me what do they actually do during the appointment? (other than breaking the backs ) Like i said I definitely wouldn't just go to anyone but there are definitely ones that I would trust.

I battle with neck and shoulder pain - been for physio numerous times.
Went to a Chiro on recommendation from a friend.
Three sessions .. then I stopped going because it was doing fukk all, other than emptying my wallet !

How can you trust something with absolutely no scientific basis ? I have used chiro's for my own aches and pains but its not science at all and very hit and miss.

Even the Chiropractic association says there is no evidence:

“Chiropractic spinal manipulation is no more effective than placebo in the treatment of infantile colic.”

If your pediatrician recommended a chiropractor then you need a new pediatrician.
Please keep your babies the hell away from chiropractors.
At best they will provide a wonderfully comforting placebo effect for you and your baby while lightening your wallet. At worst they will do permanent damage.

+1

Go to a quack if you want :crylaugh:

These pricks charge the same as medical professionals  Fcken chiro. TSEK

Colloidal silver, quacks swear by it.

Do you have actual experience and have actually been through this yourself?

What does it matter? Personal experience means next to nothing compared to scientific study. Unless of course you can point to the flaw in the methodologies of said studies?

We have tried almost every medicine but my son has on and off winds and stuff

he burps or farts it out. he is almost 5 months and it isnt nice when you see him crying cause of winds
