Page-turn animation patented by Apple

Its a patent of one specific animation, not all page turning animations. Meaning make yours look a bit different & its fine.

Their filing system is definitely broken if they dont know how to find similar patents or check if they have been issued before.
Surely they are digital by now and can easily reference other patents,why else would they take so long to issue patents?

Yeah there are so many different ways to turn a page in a book the world should thank the patents office for every millimeter difference and every degree difference of innovation they have induced in page turning.

If you can patent the idea of turning a page in a book then the system is broken.Its a natural thing not something that should be patentable.

A specific implementation of a natural thing, is still a specific implementation, so it can and should be patentable
 
Why on earth is the Apple crusaders getting into a frenzy, we aren't attacking Apple, we are attacking the CLEARLY broken patent system that is in place, which is stifling innovation in the industry and increasingly become a major barrier to entry for start-ups who don't have millions to throw away on lawyer fees.

Do you guys even know the point of patents? Its to encourage companies to research and develop new technologies/features as their innovation will be protected. In what way is turning the page, regardless of the angle, coming up with something new. It is something they could have programmed in a day, which is not surprising as it has been done plenty of times before by other individuals.

It falls under design patents, you know to prevent people for tricking you into buying fakes. Like I said before, if use on its own then its wrong but if used as part of a defense its something else. I do not want to be tricked into buying faked goods.

This is not a Software patent, here I will agree that the system is broken but not when it comes to design and hardware patents.

Well I agree with the reasoning behind it, the extent to which they are doing it is absurd. The angle at which the page turns does not uniquely identify Apple, no-one is going to tell the difference between a product that turns a page at x angle or at x+1 angle. It just creates unnecessary paperwork, which means more work for our court systems and companies.

Just found out about this study, which I think is quite relevant.

Actually this is one of the calmer threads on the subject.

There are only a couple of anti-Apple comments and only a couple of Apple can do no wrong comments.
So I dont think people are getting into a frenzy any more than people are attacking Apple

But I agree with all on this one.
The patent system is broken. There is only one body (ok maybe 2) that can fix it
* US Congress - There is no way this was intended when the law got laid down.
Changing law to make sure the courts are more sensible
* The US Supreme Court could eventually make a ruling that clarifies things - Of course it could be years and years before a case gets there

The sooner one of these happens the better

AGreed in general but remember such patents are not unique to software
- Some car company (forget which has protected the clunk when their door shuts
- there are other examples

The one good thing is that if a patent is very specific like angle then it is easy to not infringe by changing the angle or animation slightly
