Karachi - Pakistan on Monday said it felt let down by Australia and South Africa after their security fears led to the postponement until 2009 of next month's Champions Trophy in the troubled South Asian country.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) was on Sunday forced to put off the eight-nation biennial tournament until October next year just two days after South Africa refused to send their team while Australia, New Zealand and England were also considering pull-outs over security worries.

Pakistan, who were due to host the Trophy from September 12-28, however kept the hosting rights.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief operating officer Shafqat Naghmi said his country felt let down by non-Asian teams.

"We are definitely disappointed by Australia because they have not toured us for 10 years," Naghmi said.

He said he was also surprised by South Africa's sudden boycott and once major countries pulled out there was no point in holding the event.

Naghmi hoped a full tour by arch-rivals India at the turn of the year would help remove security fears.

Pakistan host India for three Tests and five one-day internationals.

Naghmi hoped Australia, who postponed a tour to Pakistan in March-April this year which then sparked doubts over the Champions Trophy, fulfil their commitment to tour next year.

"Australia have a commitment of playing five one-day internationals in April next year so we hope by then their fears are removed and they play in our country," said Naghmi of Australia who have not toured Pakistan since 1998.

Naghmi said the PCB were trying to fill in the gap created after the Trophy postponement.

The PCB's efforts to fill the gap left by Australia's tour postponement fell through as India turned down their offer of a short series due to a hectic schedule while South Africa, New Zealand and Sri Lanka also declined short tour invites for various reasons.

A four-nation Twenty20 event in Canada this month, involving the West Indies, Canada, Bangladesh and Pakistan was also put off due to the non-availability of the West Indies team.

Pakistan have no Test matches to play this year and their next tour is not before July 2009 when they play in Sri Lanka.

How can you blame them? I go to Pakistan I could die, or, or... we postpone until things sort themselves out.

Actually, makes you feel kinda good about 2010 - at the very least we don't have bombs going off every day! :p

My thoughts exactly. They are being rather ridiculous about the whole matter.

Yea maybe we don't have bombs going to off everyday but i'm pretty sure more people get murdered in this country everyday than get murdered in pakistan :p

Ok I'm booking you a flight to Pakistan. We'll see how much faith you have in your statement now :p :D

It's not faith its fact Merc :), i'm not saying that you won't die there but i'm not saying you won't die here.

Has there ever been an incident like this, in any country where players where hurt? (Off the pitch)...
I dont think so, its just a boycott imo, same thing they did with Zimbabwe.
Im sure you might say it rather safe than sorry, but I think the Paki government will keep security tight!!
Besides other countries are willing to go, why not these 3?

Id let the Proteas go, if they die, we get a new team!:p

Like the last time when a bomb went off near their hotels? Sure they'll keep it tight
There are bombs left, right and centre going off in that country. I'd never go. My life is more valuable than a few games.

Agreed 100%. I support the decision. If Pakistan can't keep opposition candidates from being assassinated how do you expect them to take care of a handful of sportsmen?

Few years back some Pakistani players got robbed in jhb sandton area.
But they finished the tour, Every week hundreds of people get killed here due to high crime rate. In 2010 What will happen if some good soccer playing countrys dont want come here.
