Pally Tank question

the cool-down's piss easy to get once you're used to playing a pally... I don't even think about it now. Sometimes I get so bored I try to mix it up a little. But even then it's quite boring and 95% of the time I keep aggro. If not I just shake my little finger and Bob...

Do you guys use add-on's for your CD's and rotations? Because I still haven't downloaded any yet... /faceroll OMG I just pwn'ed Onyxia!!!

Only addon you need is the one for the blessings to make it easier for multiple pallies in a raid to coordinate their buffs to the raid. For tanking you dont need jack, its literally faceroll over the cooldowns.

I was playing today and I forgot to pick up a quest where you had to kill a guy and the person you saved gave you one. Had to wait for them to respawn so while waiting I went to the kitchen, made myself something to eat. Went to watch a bit of etv and drink a beer.... totally forgot I was still logged.

So i ran back and I was being attacked by 2 npc's (forgot the bad guys respawn as well). Was at 1/4 health. ... still handed them their asses without healing or popping a bubble. They the same level as me (70 now)

SoV (Applies a stack of 5 which causes Holy damage)
BoS reduces all damage taken by 3% and gives mana on dodge or parry

Sorry.
No!

You havent tanked for hunters dishing out 9k.
Ret pallies peaking out at 10-11k.

If you cant hold a 969 rotation, prepare to be ashamed when you meet these people.

I can totally understand your frustration...

My character is a hunter, and I know just how hard it is for tanks to keep aggro when stuff proc's... Its mainly the MM hunters with insane ArP stacked. ArP and threat generation has gotten me many times into trouble with raid leaders. Once the grim toll proc's and you sit at 1400 ArP, its like every autoshot hits like a bulldozer on steroids.

Even doing FD's doesnt always helps since it gets resisted to easy at high threat levels. I literally have to hold back the first 10 sec's on a pull before I start nuking. When I was survival spec threat wasnt to bad, its just MM.

And the thread redirection buff doesn't help? You can literally use it every 2 minutes. I found the raids where things went the smoothest was actually those where all rogues/hunters actually use that ability on the MT and thus everyone can push their DPS to the max. I have however seen rogues liking to redirect to each other since the 20% dps increase makes them look better on the DPS meters.

Naaah the MD only helps marginally on the pull... Problem comes in, during a pull, all your trinkets are ready for proc, so after the first three MD shots are fired, then the Grim Toll proc's ... and thats when the nasty ArP sits on 1400.

Autoshots and aimed shots literally do around 10 / 12k damage per shot. Add a rapid fire in there, and yes, its almost impossible to effectively control your threat.

Around the end when kill shot is up, its very common to see 40 / 50k crit shots as well, use readiness, rince and repeat. Also considering I am using kill shot glyph, the cooldown is very very quick.

Edit - Also what makes it worse, with current gear, a high end marksman sits on around 60% crit raid buffed. So yes, all in all, it makes for very tricky nuking, esspecially when stuff starts proc'ing.

In my previous guild the only other person besides myself with threat problems was our hunter >_>

Thank goodness for the recent soul shatter buff because a 3-5 crit string and you will usually find omen screaming.

The only times we pull aggro off our pally tank is when he dc's or goes to the loo

I have actually gone AFK to get a coke from the fridge (Bar fridge by the PC was empty) and came back with the boss dead and I kept aggro all the time. I was afk for about a minute :D No one even noticed.

Given it was in Naxx and nothing major but still that is OP. And that was before the Righteous fury nerf :p

lol

The class I started playing wow with was a warrior. I tanked pretty much most of TBC with the warrior. Towards the end of TBC, I switched to warlock to do some pew pew. A few months back I thought about tanking again and decided to level my pally who was squatting in Stormwind on lvl 34 for about 6 months.

I got my pally to lvl 80, did a few heroics, got some bs crafted epics and pulled in to Naxx. After a few runs, I got bored. I found it just too easy. Then I resurrected my warrior and found that holding aggro was more difficult. That was also pre Righteous fury nerf.

However, my experience has shown that none of the classes ever stay the same for long. Cataclysm is going to change them all significantly again. I have a lvl 80 warrior and a lvl 80 paladin on standby to test again :D Must lvl my drood as well :D

Fortunatly I'm in a guild who isnt fussy about whether the MT must be paladin/druid/warrior. We also dont have a dedicated MT. On any given night we can have either tanking and if need be, we make whatever adjustments to strategy is needed. We know how to heal and dps with any tanking class.

Tbh honest

I am sick of playing DPS and Sick of playing Tank. I re-rolled a Druid healer and I'm having a blast. Still gearing so only running heroics but ooooo man is it a nice change :)

Will see what Catalysm brings then I'll decide who to level first :). Since it's a bitch to gear up a Tank and healer I assume it would be between my Druid and my Pala. But only time will tell....

You know what, we were really dof, we should have just switched accounts and paid for a faction transfer ... ;):D

This is sooooo true it hurts just thinking of it :D

But the realm we rolled on is pretty good. I'm getting some gear going now so when your Pala hits 80 you will have a decent geared healer to help you gear. Hitting 80 and having to wing it alone is a problem :D

Pornolio...

We have in my guild, a ret.
This ret has crit stacked stacked so high... on any boss where target switching is moot (say, Jaraxxis)... 9-10k rolling on from the T9 2pc...

Lesson?
WE DONT HAVE FEIGN DEATH AS RET!!!

Keeping aggro off this man is a fulltime job, i assure you.

Well i guess he has one bubble threat dump , maybe multiple paladins with Hand of salvation?

I find a warriors vigilance to be awesome as well.

What was your previous guild on Bloodhoof ?

A 10 man semi casual raiding guild called Corrupted Sovereign. Stopped Raiding when Call of the Crusade hit.

Was sad to see the bunch of guys quit when we just started working on frogg saron x_x

No jokes. I have done this too. The one evening didn't have food and was too tired to make food, so ordered Mr Delivery. Whilest waiting got bored and joined a ToC 5 heroic with a bunch of noob dps'ers. Whilst doing the 2nd boss, thats the Paladin where you have to turn away, I noticed the dps were barely doing 10% of the TPS I was doing when the door bell rang. Just turned me character around and walked out. When I came back boss was dead and everyone waiting to do the next boss.

Leveling a warrior now as well, and even now its hard tanking on it, its only 61 now.
