So Saturday night went out with friends, as we got to our destination I wanted to park the car in reverse. So I wouldn't struggle when I leave, the car guard help me he didn't tell the me the is a tree branch. As it was dark I drove into it, unfortunately I damaged the front bumper and the front cross member bent.

So this morning I decided to go to panelbeater, just to repair the bumper I thought it will be like R2000. The front cross member I will see it later, after the assessor check my car he tell me the damage would be over R10 000. The bumper need to be replaced like serious how crazy is he, he claim they can't repair the bumper non the cross member can't be fix.

Posted the photo of the bumper :-)

How high was the stump and with what force did you drive into it to damage the cross member? I see you were reversing, have you seen the damaged cross member or is it the story of the assesor?
Insurance? if not just take the car to some informal panelbeater and let them repair it for you, i've had jobs done for me previously on such things, some of the guys are good, you'll just have to find them.

Shoyuldn't be more than 3k for that damage. Take it to the local guys or smaller shops.

Day light robbery at its best. I asked the guy three times are you sure the bumper, need to be replaced he said yes.

Yes the cross member is bent but not badly bent, I was driving on gear one.

Loads of white vehicles around. Go find a scrapyard with a cross member and a Bumper. Will get it for a steal and then put it back yourself. Cross member might require a bit of know how. But the bumper will just assemble on easily.

Yes that is all the damage hence I asked are you sure the bumper need to be replaced. I didn't mind to pay R2000 to fix the bumper, but when he said everything need to be replaced and it will be over R10 000 I just left.

Where do you stay? Had a fender bender myself and bought a rear bumper for my yaris sedan myself straight from the supplier and it cost me a grand total of R700.00

Took it to a spray shop had the paint mixed and fitted the next day.

This, mind you when I get quotes in excess of R6k-R7k for the body shop to do everything for you.
It's feckin daylight robbery!!

Not sure about chev parts though as they have left S.A.

Use your insurance, pay your excess.

Stop trying to cut corners, otherwise six months from now you'll be back again with a problem because you used some backyard special and the paint is now peeling off etc.

Similar bumper replacement and spray for someone throwing a bottle into the road and cracking the bumper was R11,461.56 recently.

I don't think they repair cracked bumpers, that's usually a replacement. Just claim and get it over with. Some things isn't worth doing cheaply.

R10 000 is it really worth it for this ?????????

With the excess in mind this one looks like it is worth doing cheaply, I know there are people who are cheap but can still do a good job, it's it purely aesthetic. I am all for spending good money on a good car, this is just a cheapie Spark.

It looks worth it yes, but I'm not completely convinced that the end result will look the same, even on a cheapie. That cheapie still looks like it could still be worth a pretty penny.

How will the crack be repaired, plastic welding?

How exactly do you seem them repairing your plastic bumper? The guy is right, the whole things needs to be replaced if you want it in original condition.
