Parkhurst - ADSL issues

In the router's setup page check the snr (signal-to-noise-ratio). If it is around 6db it might disconnect from time to time as there is a lot of noise on the line which makes it more difficult for the modem to stay connected and it will disconnect from time to time when conditions change or there is interference on the line. Lowering the speed of the line will increase the snr and result in a more stable connection will less disconnects.

First thing I checked, SNR is over 12 so that isn't my issue. I'm really running out of things to try. Pretty sure it's exchange related in which case I'm screwed.

My SNR is 12 but I think its my attenuation rate (49) that could be the issue. I have no idea how to improve it though...

Streaming.... tears

I'm along 1st Ave West with an upgraded 4Mbps line, but when it comes to streaming video, it's crap.

It's really frustrating as I want to sign up with companies like ntv.mx & get more than one Premier League channel for R295)

OOKLA reports:

2014-04-01 15_26_52-Speedtest.net by Ookla - The Global Broadband Speed Test.jpg

and my modem suggests the line is capable of 5144 Kbps!

So I changed my package with Afrihost from 4mb uncapped to 2mb uncapped. Since then I've had a much better internet experience - still downloading relatively fast and video streaming works reasonable well. Also the internet hasn't dropped once in about a week now so I would say that has solved the problem.

Also interesting to note that the Parkhurst Resident's Association is working to try to get fibre for the whole neighbourhood - details here https://docs.google.com/document/d/1vyiRUIhAZ26dy4byTahgHljttBiyeqIlpYVdcxcoH38/edit/ or here http://www.parkhurstvillage.com/

And... we got faster internet :) This is a local speedtest result from my house in Parkhurst (over wifi within my house):
