Part needed - F90P02 Mosfet

Right, so I need one of these babies to get my fan headers on my motherboard to work properly but I cannot find anyone in SA that sells them.

There are a few on eBay and the like but I need it sooner than the 3+ months it will take to ship it.

Are there any local retailers I can try and see if they stock them? The OEM part is an "Excelliance MOS Corporation P‐Channel Logic Level Enhancement Mode Field Effect Transistor" (quite a mouthful) and it looks similar to the pic below:

I have found very few with the specific parameters, but I will keep searching :)

Edit: it is definitely for fan control as both headers are not working (CPU and CPU_OPT). What I think happened was that because the two headers sit right next to each other, it's easy to plug in a fan connector across both headers by mistake thereby shorting the header and blowing the MOSFET.

The chassis fans work on another MOSFET as they are all working fine. And strangely enough the sense pin is still working as I can pick up RPM from the header. Just no 12V going to it to actually spin the fans...

Have you tried RS components? They should have something similar and their site is quite easy to navigate.
 
I tried RS but I couldn't find the correct spec one.

I don't know a whole lot about electronics on this scale and I would hate to damage the board further by replacing it with an incorrect part not suited for the application

You don't have to worry. If Mosfet is used only for fan control (it looks like as otherwise motherboard is working well), then any similar part will work. If you want to be sure find something and post here for confirmation. Search for the following:
- P-channel (in the link given it was N-channel - not good)
- Enchanced Mode (indicating that gate is driven by low voltage logic). There are different names, but it must be able to open for full current @Vgs -4.5V or less
- -20V Vdss-max or more
- +/-12V Vgs-max or more
- -10A continous drain current (not strict, it can be as low as 2A in my view)
- 0.1 Ohm Rdson max (it will be plenty devices with lower value)
- Reverse diode present
- DPAK TO-252 enclosure, so it will fit PCB nicely
- the same pin-out (most typical - valid in 99.9% cases)

For this application all other parameters like switching are irrelevant.
 
Sorry to resurrect this thread. I'm still awaiting my MOSFETs from China, but in the mean time I got my hands on a broken motherboard which has a few I could use, but I am unsure of the exact values.

The ones I see are:

K4213
K3918
P2003ED
L1085DG

Would any of these suit my purpose?

First two are n-channel, so NO.
The last one is a voltage regulator, so NO.

P2003ED is three times stronger. It may work, but for a fast switching I wouldn't use it. In this case it is DC or a low frequency driver, it may work. The only things that may matter is a gate threshold voltage 1.6V vs. 0.75V typical. If gate is not properly polarised, it will not open fully, heating up device.

As Desktop fans are driven 12V and laptops 5V, it should open fully though.
 
My knowledge of electronics is very limited, so going by what you said I am going to assume I should err to the side of caution and not use them and rather wait for the correct ones I ordered from China.

Which may or may not be this lifetime...
 
There is no risk involved in trying other than making errors during soldering (shorts, breaking tracks, etc...).
 
My MOSFETs finally arrived :)

Now to find someone who can replace it for me as I don't trust myself not to stuff it up

Where you located?

One of those pakistani cell repair shops should be able to do it.

Port Elizabeth. I messaged a guy off Gumtree now who claims he can do it for R80, so I may drop it off there tomorrow and see if he can work his magic on it. If he can't I'll go find a local cell shop and see what they can do for me :)

It's an easy job, if you were close by I would do it for you. Longest part of the job is switching the soldering station on and waiting for it to heat up to the correct temperature :D

My gas soldering station heats up instantly. :)

Joking... just dreaming about getting one, but Weller or Magnum station heats up in 15 seconds.
