Ok, so I booted a live CD of Ubuntu and resized my NTFS drive. Now when I boot into XP, it shows my original partition, just much smaller, but I can't see the other partition that I made? Can anyone help?

XP does not see Ubuntu but ubuntu can see the windows one. There are programs you can get that will enable XP to have read only access to linux (so you can see but can not move or create stuff)

It's formatted using NTFS though.

Ahh, the LINUX trouble begins. And you all said how great UBUNTU was.

Every OS has its problems! Yes, linux too! But Pooky managed to sort it out himself it appears, and probably learned some things in the process!

I think that the problem with lots of people who try linux for the first time is that they hit their first hurdle, and being so used to XP, just give up, and return to what they know - rather than trying to find the solution, and improve their skills, and actually learn how to use the OS.

The fact that Pooky managed to learn something whilst sorting it all out is neither here nor there. The point is if the O/S is any good, you don't have to worry about the detail. I know some people like tinkering, but once you've done it for a few systems, it gets tiresome and you hanker after one like OSX where the low level things are taken care of.

Face it - UBUNTU install process is badly written, unfriendly and archaic!

I have found the (K)Ubuntu installation process to be one of the easiest I have ever come across! My 7yr old daughter has installed a couple of systems herself!

What specifically are you referring to?

OK - you have an opinion - but back it up with some "for instances".

I think it is an awesome, easy install. If I had to find one gripe, it is that the date zone selection is a PITA witout a mouse.
And that is the only complaint I have.
