We are the tax -payers. We pay the salaries of those whose job it is to run the country and its infrastructure.

If I experience problems in my job I never see the government/ local administration dropping by to see if they can help. Why - cos it's not their job.

It's not my job to solve the power crisis - people get paid bonuses of millions to do this for me.

It's not my job to solve the traffic disaster - ditto as above.

I don't know or care what colour person is paid to manage the transport system - I just want them to do their job, not take the cash and tell me to fix it.

Accusations of racism because taxpayers are getting shafted is an insult.

This is desperation kicking in.

Trains ! Did I hear trains ?

Build a decent circular train system.

Give us secure station parking.

Provide a park and shuttle system.

Get rid of the taxis and cut the death rate, the anger rate, and we get a traffic lane back.

Don't build new areas like Parklands, Durbanville without first building a public transport network.

But no - much easier to say well, start school later, flexi time, car pooling - anything but solving the problem of a failed public transport system.

This last post of yours just proved my point... you guys will moan about everything.

The government recognises problems with congestion due to more cars on our roads. They discuss it, put forward plans and then get ridiculed for doing so.

1. Trucks - good idea, these are a problem. Trucks alone cause issues during peak hours, never mind the absolute nightmares caused when they jack knife, burst into flame etc! Living in Pinetown I have also seen how the truck operators insist on sending their trucks up Field's Hill so they can avoid the couple of rand toll on the freeway, posing a danger to all using this road and effectively reducing it to one lane by travelling at 10km/h!

2. Monorail - what s the problem with this suggestion?

3. The transport minister stating that he supports the use of bicycles... yes and the problem here again would be? He is not telling you to sell your luxury vehicle and ride, he is merely supporting the use of bicycles to transport those not priveleged to have a car! Good again! It works in India.... one of the world's fastest growing economies.

4. Underground sytems I have experienced first hand in Sweden, London and Paris seem to work very well, so once again what is the problem with out government looking into it?

5. Brilliant... Why drive all the way around table bay when you can cut straight across it?

Yes, let's cut taxis to free up room on the roads so we can cruise along more comfortably in our air conditioned luxury cars. They are of course just a nuisance that happen to transport the majority of workers in this country to their place of work!

Constructive critisim wil not result in accusations of racism. It is when the source of the complaints often seems to be the history of the government itself and not the actual situation at hand that the remarks take on a racist appearance.

Terms like "guvermint" or "govermunt" do not help to disguise these racist undertones... you may not have used them but many moaners have.

Look at the dates of the articles - some are over three years old.

Discuss, do nothing.

I'm not ridiculing the ideas - I just want to see the ideas actually become reality.

I want to see civil servants serve their citizens.

If that makes me a moaner then I'm a moaner.

I voted and have voted for the ANC in every election since they came to power.

Now I want them to do the job I elected them for and pay them for.

If they don't then I am

It's really simple - I don't care about colour.
I care about competence.
I care about responsibility.
I care about accountability.

If this government were a pale shade of mauve with orange trimmings I could care less.

Just do the job.

Well keep these thoughts of yours in mind then when you next get the chance to vote.... perhaps we need a stronger opposition!

You actually have no right to moan then if it was you that voted the current government into power... you have had numerous opportunites since the first democratic election to show your lack of confidence in their abilities to implement what they promise, but you have not done so.... You are as much to blame for all our current problems, perceived or not!

Well thanks, but I can't really take all the glory for that. There were some others involved too.

But yes, I helped.

But that doesn't mean I must abandon them when they lose the plot any more than I should switch allegiance to Chelsea because Man U have a crappy season.
 
Maybe if Metro were to stagger payment of upper manager's salaries to months containing a 'z' in their name until a working solution for which employees are being paid was implemented, the problem would be solved within a week.

Which countries do not have have public transport that is not uncomfortably overcrowded during peak hours?
 
I typed up a long post to defend my statement but decided to scrap it. To some up what I wanted to say( and I won't bother trying to justify it like I did in my essay):

-stop blaming the ANC for EVERYTHING that happens, when a lot of things are out of their control

-stop whining about everything in South Africa and wanting to run away, try and see what you can do

- come to terms with your inner racism if you find yourself complaining all the time about the government about anything they do, but you complain without even thinking or examining the facts.

-the entire world is heading towards a crisis because of the way capitalism and corporate greed have raped the entire planet of everything.

- the world is getting overcrowded dumbass, and sooner or later something has to give. Much like the economy, something has to give. A perfect example is the housing bubble in the US and how it has burst, and of course the associated credit crunch.

Capitalism isn't the best way to do things for everybody. Its only the best way for a select few.

Give me my public holidays and let me start work a few hours later. Why can't I have that. Why must the bosses be happy and be living it up, while the rest of us don't have a chance.

I was beginning to feel alone, I am also glad to see that there is at least one other South African out there in fact thinking properly. Its like this has become the land of the moaners.

People can try to hide their racism as much as they want but its still there big time, and they are now whining like spoilt brats.

Everyone should just think how bad it could really have become in South Africa. Imagine if all the fears of wealth taxes etc had actually come true.

Racism still exists but its even more dangerous than before because many people are hiding it away.

The worst part is that many young people are racist and don't even know why, thanks to the bitterness of their parents.

If you read about yet another hair brained scheme from goverment, and a 10 year old could tell you its a bunch of rubbish, dont say anything. Its not like this is your country as well? Its not like you pay tax? Because if you do complain its obviously just your "deep seated racism"
 
Is this going to be better or worse than the current overcrowding solution where commuters are thrown out of moving trains (usually by criminals)?

Excuse me? I have never complained about the Gautrain - I don't know enough about it and any potential alternatives to be able to comment.

And letting a 6 year old go off to school by herself is just not feasible, trains or no trains. Just because some unfortunate kids have to swim across rivers and walk miles to get to school doesn't mean the rest of us should as well! Bringing everyone down to the lowest common denominator is NOT a viable solution.

Oh, and I'm sick and tired of being called racist for criticising the government's plans! I am NOT racist, deep down or otherwise. What I am is anti-incompetence, no matter what colour the person.

Some people think we should import Mosquito's from up north and destroy all out Citronella stocks just because some poor people cannot afford mosquito nets.

So according to you, no-one has the right to complain. If you vote ANC, you can't complain because you voted them into power. If you don't vote ANC, you're only complaining about the government because you're racist.

How many times have I moaned about something, then someone perks up "you racist because you don't like the ANC"
I'm so far from racist, it's not even funny!
I just want this country run properly!
