patch-4-0-1

tried pretty much all of the mirrors on wowwiki and they are dead slow. 5 odd hours to download the 100meg file. this is just daft :(

I have 5.12gig of the patch at home wowwiki tells me that the full patch is 4.9gig - 5.3gig.
Does that met I have around 200megs to download or over 1gig more to download like you guys are talking about

wow needs to store that 1.6gb somewhere on the drive, just find it and, we place it in where it should :P

It is not as simple as that ;) The last part is using their new system of play while you download, so it is actively installed while downloading. I have not been searching if there is a file stored yet, but just wanted to let you know that the updates may work quite different now...

so guys without uncapped is screwed agrrrr

have to wait for someone to finish and get complete client :(

I was checking what files were being modified while the new loader downloads. It seems the wow data files themselves are now being directly modified as the download happens. I have a feeling we won't be seeing many "offline" patches in the future.

Methinks it may be possible homebrew a patch. Create a diff between the updated client sans the streamed updates and a completely upgraded client.
Memories of hackpatches, and general fustration :(

Why exactly is this patch so big? Are there any visual changes? Does it make your client "cataclysm ready" so you don't have to download when the cataclysm begins?

Also, will older armor models be updated in cataclysm?

Nah no changes just a few bug fixes;)

There is a new graphics engine included etc.

New water rendering, saw the new Races models being added, and some new spell effects.
Will have a evaluation of DirectX1.11 ? I think. Some Glide functions etc.

I got the 1st 3 patches a few weeks ago. however if I had know about the little patch after, and the cata downloader thing I woulda left my laptop on overnite last nite. however, i had this idea to go sleep before midnite for a change... so when I get home at 630, on it goes, and leave it til 2moro. if I had money, Id go out and drown my sorrows :p

not that there will be a raid tonite I dont think, but Im gonna miss that anyway

I think that this patch includes a large amount of the new Cata content, it just doesn't enable it yet.
