Not sure where this thread would go but anyway who here knows paypal very well? Want to know if they accept debit cards they say so when you add a card?

Dunno about debit cards, I've always been using my credit card on it. PayPal is wonderful for online shopping!

It is have to still apply for a credit card but not sure if anyone has got it right to add a debit card

Straight from there website

"Debit Cards (also called check cards, ATM cards, or banking cards) are accepted if they have a Visa or MasterCard logo"

So not sure

It actually depends. I still have my PayPal account when I lived in the UK. It accepted my UK debit card. I don't think it accepts a South African debit card. In this case you'll probably have to use your credit card.
When trying to create a debit account on PayPal, if I remember, you have to perform some security tests which is a mission. But just try creating one and see if South African debit cards are accepted. I think you need to add your banks details too.

Dont want to get a credit card just to suscribe to a 1 month website service that will cost R40 seems 2 much of a waste

AFAIK PayPal will send you a confirmation "letter" via snailmail if you opt to go the debit card route. You'll probably end up waiting a few months for the letter to arrive, if it ever does.

Honestly, get a CC and upgrade your PayPal account to unrestricted. You'll have many years of joy with it, trust me... ;)

I feel the same. Don`t want a credit card. I want a Pay Pal account number type thing i can just transfer money to without needing a
credit card where i can transfer into it for online purchases only.

At ABSA there was a rumour of such a thing (online account with a credit card number) but
i don`t see it around.
I don`t understand why the main banks don`t have such things.

Normal cheque cards won't work. You need MasterCard/Visa that has your name on the front and has a cvv number at the back.

A cheque card will work.

Paypal Problems

Ok so this is beyond Bizarre I went to the bank and got my account changed to a cheque card and tried registering again I have a silver checque account and it denies it. My sister who is on the smart cheque account a level under me with the same card type it accepts how on earth is this possible?

I linked my debit card (Visa) to Paypal om Monday. Did the "test" thing and saw the $1.95 deducted from the account today, with the 4-digit code I need to confirm with.

It works.

I think it accepts certain debit cards not sure which ones though. Firstly you will have to have a ccv number and an expiry date to add the card. And some debit cards dont allow balance checks so paaypal cant verify whether there is money in the account thats why it doesnt accept it. Will the credit card option work if you have a merchant account?

I have more than enough money in my account. Havent tried that but I think they will restrict what card u can use on what account.
