PC Build

what about some more fancy RAM?? with that budget you could squeeze in some 1600 CL7 RAM at least?

Just a thought... :D

Definitely try get an insane screen, I'm thinking 27" or 30" IPS because computer component prices are dropping all the time, but screens' prices drop more slowly, so they're a good investment. It's also the thing you're looking at all the time.

Budget of R27k. Spend 10k on the screen.

Why not buy billyBobs rig?? http://www.carbonite.co.za/f14/dual-loop-i7-rig-920-d0-r2g-haf-x-5970-a-5202/

Dont understand, with a budget like that I would expect you got the best graphics card on the market.

Why not get two of AMD's latest graphics cards in crossfire (The 5970 for example) better performance, for a similar price.

Yup, did get the best graphics card on the market;) Can add another if he wants at a later date. The 5970 is overkill and costs about 2K more than the GTX480 if not more. Billybobs rig doesn't support USB3 or SATA6gbps and is old tech now, the corsair HX620 is notoriously bad and under powered and has also been taken of the market. Watercooling takes draining and bleeding every now and then which is a mission. 24" screen is more than enough, anything bigger and you have to move your head to see each side or sit further away in which case a 24" screen is more than enough. As for the ram, why? CL9 is more than good enough and can probably be dropped to CL8 with a small ammount of tweaking.

Total cost was only R22941.00

I'd say with a PC like that, you need a desk the size of a pool table and a chair with built in heating, aircon, back-massage etc.

No seriously, make it an awesome but also comfortable PC.

Get a nice big thin mouse-pad (can actually make your own by cutting 2 or 3mm wetsuite material, the BEST mousepads :) )
Get a mouse and keyboard he likes and is comfortable with, and try and reduce noise! :)

Lol, I'm hoping he likes the keyboard and mouse I've chosen. If he doesn't I'll take them and he can get different ones.

Me too - 90% 4+5 star feedback on Newegg seems to indicate that there are not any blatant flaws.

+1

I did some extensive research when I bought mine and only read good things...

tweaktown.com , overclock3d.net , hardwaresecrets.com , silentpcreview.com all rave about this thing...

I think your bro will be very happy with that setup, it will last him a couple of years :) In all honesty 27k sounds like allot of money for a top end PC, but you easily reach that amount. Think the total cost on my pc is over 30k sofar, all over about 6 months. Excluding all the replacements made.
Peanut i read very good reviews on that cooler, keeps temps under 60C!! Only downside is its a 3 slotter and rules out SLi especially on Juggy's chosen motherboard.

I would go for 2x HD 6870 graphics cards if he's willing to wait a short while for the shops to actually get stock.
+ Corsair HX750 PSU
