PC crashing (pics included) :(

Hey all

So my brothers PC has decided to give up the ghost (sort of, anyway). Its started crashing when gaming or internet browsing (Battlefield 3 and facebook).
Just a note - when I say crash - it stops responding completely, and the screen is filled with different shapes and colours.

Ive stress tested each component individually ( RAM; CPU; GPU) and I cant seem to replicate the problem (Ive used Memtest; Prime95 and Kombustor). Im starting to think its the motherboard.
Lastly - Ive tried putting the GPU in my PC and played BF3; the problem does not show itself.

Specs:
Nvidia 9800GT
AMD Phenom II 925
2 x 2GB DDR II RAM

Any ideas as to how I can fix this problem? Or what might be causing it?

When I had that same issue, it was my 8800GT dying and true enough, 3 weeks later, it was deader than dead.

Strange that it doesn't show up in your PC but I'm still betting GPU

I had the same thing with an XFX 8800GT. Crazy colours. 5-10FPS after about 5 minutes of gaming. I also suspect GPU.
 
Try it with another PSU.
Dodgy power supplies can cause all kinds of nonsense.
 
Looks like bus artifacts. Put the gpu in the lower PCI-E slot and see if you get the same problem.
 
Have you recently updated to 320.xx nvidia drivers, they have caused a lot of problems recently.
 
Maybe a overheating GPU. Have you cleaned it perhaps? Hows the temperatures in the box?

So Ive tried from the 306.10, to 310.9, then to 320. All give the exact same issue sadly :(

@DrJohnZoidberg Will do within the next few days, just trying to exhaust other possibilities first. Thanks for the idea.

@xumwun Surely if I stress tested all of the components, it cant be that? Under 100% load its drawing more power than BF3 or facebook ever would.

@Loopin Wish I could! Only the one PCI-E slot on that motherboard though :( I guess that kinda confirms what Im thinking though, given that it works in my PC without a problem.

@Rickster Ive tried a bunch of different drivers, all showing the same thing so far.

@bromster Might end up being just that yep. Still makes me wonder why it would work in my PC though. Meh. Confusion.

Also, what are the clocks on the card, especailly the voltage it could be too low or too high.
 
Other things you can try:
- clean contacts of GPU card with pencil eraser.
- reduce GPU/memory clock and voltage little bit (if card utility support gives such option). Some settings can be stored on PC (not on the card), it is why it works on other PC.
 
Looks like a graphics card issue, Try on lowest settings and see what happens. Also try installing different drivers.

Does however seem like the card is dying.

Oh also check event viewer for anything that may give a hint to any issue.
 
And if it is indeed the Graphics card dying you might as well bake it.

Ive had success with many graphics cards reviving them for anything from 6months to still working.

Core clocks are stock at 600. Never changed anything there.
And Ive tried Kombustor, there was no issue there. Would it make a difference trying Furmark?

@sajunky Good idea. I tried that this afternoon - dropping the core clock down to 500. Sadly after a few min of gaming, the same issue occurs.

@cybershark Anything different with those drivers? As opposed to the ones Ive tried so far?

@Hostking The 9800GT handles BF3 on the lowest settings (only just hehe) :) So cant go any lower.

@absynth Tempted to do just that.. I wanna be sure that its the motherboard though.

Does anyone know how to confirm its the motherboard? I know Prime95 tests a bit of the RAM and such, but it doesnt test everything.
