Hi there, I think if you want a more comprihensive list of what games to choose I would post a link of that e-mail in the NAG website. Also I know that Len from Arena77 is the best person to speak to when it comes to what the most popular games are and what the rules for them are.

Also a map from war3 frozen throne caled Defense of the Ancients AKA DotA is most probably the most played "game" you will get online next to counterstrike of course and games like WoW and Guildwars.

spiderz i was one of the game admins at BLG, the tournament have been put on hold for the moment, but dont worry they shell be back.
myself and chocs still run some of the social tournaments at Organised Chaos in cape town (www.oc.co.za)

But back to subject

I see few problems in gaming in RSA

1st, and the biggest is the gamers them selves, SA gamers are stingy and are never looking at the good things and trying to help but always being (what i call) spanner throwers, messing up good things and the complaining when they not there. SA gamers never spend money on anything except themselves the one of the big reasons that DOTA and CS1.6 is so popular is that you dont need alot of money to buy and play it online.

2nd The other thing is what i saw in the article

I think this is the total oppersite, there isnt enough money in it. If you look over seas at CPL, WCG there alot of money that why sponsors and investers are in on it and they so popular. The old saying that love makes the world go round in BS, the only reason we turn is that someone pays the guy in the middle enough money to turn us. Look at any other world sport soccer, rugby there is big money in all of it. So when gamer/sponsers/organisers give some money there be some money given back to gamer/sponsers/organisers, the misconception that competitive gaming sould be free is wrong yes any school sport was free because your school payed for you but go to club/national level you have to pay, when i did national sailing when i was younger i would cost me (or my parents) R200 simple to register me as a sailer in South Africa then race weekends cost from R50 to R500 to enter thats before other costs.

3rd national colour isnt just given out for doing well at the sport they also look at you as a person, you cant have a guy/girl on the national side that never washes for weeks and does drugs, "oh but he pwns noobs" doesnt matter he doesnt portra a good image for RSA.

4th I see big problems with running national tournaments over the internet, it leaves it wide open to cheating. And futher how would you know that you are playing against the person that you think you playing against. Dota is also a grey point, there is no built in feature to upload scores/replays, host games or admin the games. There is rumours about a tournament battle net server comin out, but i havent seen much about it. this is why BLG never did tournament for it and why i think WCG doent saport it overseas.

I dont want any of this to stop anyone and make mself into a spanner thrower because any futhering gaming in RSA in anyway can only mean good things, and wish AGASA and GM all my saport and best of luck in there tournaments.
 
Hi Chuky1, I know that you might consider this strange but there are 2 major leagues for DotA overseas at the moment both being played on the internet. You can control the competitions online, simply because alot of the gamers don't actually cheat. Even if they do cheat they are usually caught and banned permanently from gaming. There has been alot of this issues before and most can be controlled. I know that arena77 handles most of the online servers for competitions and raking purposes.

I wouldn't mind being known as a super NERD! I wasn't one in high school since I did sports as-well, but if was allowed to PC gaming as a sport then I would of signed up a long time ago!
 
Big League Gaming unfortunately closed its doors a little while ago. As many of you know, BLG was hosting tourneys on a pay-to-play basis, but just before its closure, we were looking into a subscription-based model for the tourneys. Part of that models' fee structure was going to be worked into a MSSA association of some sort.

But BLG died just before we were going to roll out the concept... :(

Chuky's spelling needs a bit of improvement but he handles the bulk of our UT2004 adminning at OC . FalCo_Za isnt around as much as he should, due to lack of a decent connection at home, but he's a mean CS player/admin. And all three of us handled the BF2 tourneys in a variety of flavours.

I think the BLG servers are still usable, though, if anyone wants a l33t server to run something on... ;)

GM<DJ>DJ , I realize you are trying to put gaming forward as a whole, which is awesome.

But AGASA is truly working hard on this. As can be seen with the press release, the press conference, and the future press conference. Simply by looking at the website you can also see that we have over 400 players registered already.

What you are proposing is already in full motion at AGASA. And yes you are right, one Organization will struggle to truly bring this to a realization, that is why, what AGASA has done to date, is such an achievement.

I do recognise your claim in the conference and the registered players - I think however - this matter should be discussed in private from here forth. Before Gamers are confused - as this is where it going. Your claim is substantial - but I think we need to resolve GM and AGASA matter privately.

i would would say that dj is right in a way that a national selection should not fall onto one person or company that all people involved should help pull this off lans/internet servers/gamers/tournament organisers should have a part in this
