pc gaming is a nightmare

dablakmark8,

Secondly, don't waste your time with that gfx card, I had the 5500 it sucks a$$. All the nvidia 5*00 series were c@rp, Even if you just go buy a R300 7300 or something similar you wont regret it.

Hey..... My FX5200 is L33T Bru. It has suffered with me through the tough times.

So what if i get less than 10 FPS playing Hitman Bloodmoney? The little bugger was fighting his @ss off.

Id prefer this to a fat, lazy 8800GTX anyday.....think about it :p

just another update,My one ram chip was slightly out of the slot, maby this caused it.I swaped them a around and now have them working again.
Strange that the one ram was very hot and the other one was cool to the touch.
I will try and place another fan on top of the grafix card and test the game again.
I swear if it freeses again, then i have reached the limit.

i think you're all wrong...you need to:

take the entire computer apart, carefully
put each circuited component on a non-magnetic lint-free material (plastic is good)
clean the dust off of each component, especially fans
unplug everything that can be and plug it in again
remove the CPU, clean it off, buy some of that thermaltake heat creme, reapply it and reseat the CPU.

then:

back up your stuff
format your PC
reinstall windows WITH service pack 2
re install all of your drivers
re install programs and games

look, it's going to take around 4-5 hours, it's a saturday or sunday job, very fulfilling, and if it doesn't sort out your problem i will gladly do it for you. (not)

but i'm dead serious, this will sort out your problem, and afterwards, your computer will feel like a phuckin' badass machine.

Well i gave PC gaming another try today with Never Winter Nights 2 on my AMD Dual Core 4800+ with 2x 7800GTX cards in SLi and 2Gig of RAM. Turned everything on max at 1280x1024 res .... and i get a whopping 5 fps ... what a joke! ... all latest drivers and i aint a newbie when it comes to pc's ... ill stick with my xbox 360 ... gaming is just so much better :) ...

EDIT: And easier and less stressful

Ive read about people with less specs than your pc and can run the game with much more fps, did you install the patches for the game? I havent run the game myself, but there must be something that is horribly wrong to give fps like that.

I'll bet NWN2 doesn't like running in SLI mode. :P

How did you establish that you only get 5 fps?

I run the game max'd out (at 1024 x 768 due to monitor restraints) on my X850XT, 1GB of RAM with a single core A64-3500+ and other than a few little jerks during spell casting it runs fine.

This exactly why I don't sell gaming PCs anymore.

When someone asks me to build their kid a gaming PC, I tell them to go and buy an Xbox 360.

PCs nowadays just have too many clashes with the type of RAM, motherboards, etc. and it sometimes takes weeks to troubleshoot what the problem is. It took me about 3 months to discover why my current PC was freezing in games. I fixed it by turning up the Vcore voltage of my CPU - a sollution no one ever thought of on forums.

Anyway, it's working now, but only because of sleepless nights.

I had the exact problem, I though it was my graphics card so I bought a new one and still had the same problem.

In the end it turned out to be my power supply.

Yeah its your PC that sucks or maybe its just you :D (j's joking)
Have never had performance issues with any game other than with SC:DA which is a problem for everyone because its a bad patch.

Some console games play better on the PC, for one Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance looks better on the PC than on the PS2

When Crysis comes out you'll bashing the PC will be back, but sorry for you no Crysis on PS3 or 360.

Err, ShockG, have you even read any of the posts in this thread? We didn't complain about how the games look/perform.

This thread is about hardware issues in a PC. Just wait until you get a PC that randomly freezes in the middle of a game, then you'll know what it feels like.
