PC International, WHERE?

I find PC International to be at least 10% cheaper than IC, sometimes 25%, or even more.

But yes, they charge a fee if you pay by CC - I always pay them by cheque.

IMO IC are a hopeless operation, I don't know why they don't model themselves on one of the North American chains, such as Futureshop.

But I also import computer stuff from the USA - but only when it makes financial sense. At the beginning of last year I got a P6T, i7, and fast DDR3 RAM from the USA, at the time most shops didn't stock it here and the ones that did were too expensive. PC International didn't keep i7 CPU's or motherboards at the time.

Or do an EFT and send them the deposit confirmation - that's the way I do it with them and then you don't pay extra for a CC ;)

IC has been pulling their shlt together lately. They aren't *that* far off on the pricing side anymore. e.g. What Goobie said about
the screens (IC vs PCint) is in most cases true. I suspect that IC has been fighting hard to lower their prices while PCint has (probably) pushed
up their margins since they are now an established brand. The difference should be much more since IC is a bricks & motar Op.

The difference was huge last time I bought from pcint (3-4 years ago), now its not that impressive anymore.

EDIT: IC sales staff still sucks though & on occasional items they still have 100%+ markup by the looks of it.

There is a shortage of decent computer shops / chains in SA, and I would be only too happy if IC can get their act together.

But I have my doubts !

Issue is, I think that it would be easy to fix IC, just model them on Futureshop. But the name has been damaged, maybe beyond repair.

It may be best if they fold and someone else takes them over - they need a new name (and a reorganisation).

I wouldn't go there (PCInt) again. I went there thinking I was getting a good price for a Samsung LCD screen, until I was slapped with a "fee" for paying by credit card which jacked the price up to almost the same as what Incredible Connection was charging at that time...they won't see me again.

It mentions on the site credit cards attract a higher price, i have found pcint an awesome parts dealer.
