PC restarts while playing games

Ok quick update from my friends house. I'm posting from my phone so excuse the layout.

So i first put my 4870 into my friends pc. Installed the drivers and played cod4 with no restarts.

I then put my friends 9600gt into my pc and played cod4 with no restarts.

I then plugged my 4870 back into my pc and played cod4 with no restarts. Also rated my computer with no restarts.

I wonder if it's going something to do with our monitors (i have a 20" wide and he has a 17") although i highly doubt it. I remember when i still had my 8600gt, i one day turned on my pc but the screen remained blank. Long story short the card was finished. Plugged in a different card and everything worked. So just for fun i plugged my 8600gt back in again and it worked. I wonder if this is a similiar case. Maybe by plugging my friends card in i have fixed mine :)

I will test a few more games when i get home and post back.

Learn to read kuga :p

Was to good to be true :/

Played one round of cod4 and everything was fine. Got to the next map and one minute in my pc restarted :(

Does the PSU have 2 x PSU 6-pin connectors, or are you using 1 x PSU 6-pin + 1 x Molex to 6-pin? If the latter, have you tried dedicating an entire rail to the GPU only?

Heard dodge stories about iSonic PSUs...

Currently using 2 x 6-pin connectors.

I've got a 6-pin molex connector so I'm gonna use that and try and determine if one of the 6-pin connectors aren't working.

well, at least your pc doesn't create perfectly spaced vertical lines on the screen once you go into the game... however, maybe you should swap out the gpu, there might be an error or even a mini short circuit... or it's the PSU.

he is yet to try another psu.

I have a friend who has a 4870 and he says he'll test my card in his pc and I'll test his in mine.

If my pc still restarts with his card in then it's probably the PSU and if his pc restarts with my card in then it's probably the card.

Yeah yeah yeah :p

Well just tried my card with a 6 pin plus a molex 6 pin, then the other 6 pin and the molex 6 pin and then both molex 6 pin's and all the time RBE said one of my power connectors wasn't connected.

Maybe RBE is taking the mickey out of me or the psu is so close to dying it just can't provide enough power.

Hey masti.

What program did you use to flash your bios?
<snip>

I didn't flash my BIOS, it was done for me by the supplier.

However, I played more games on Friday and over the weekend and the problem is not gone. UT3, Crysis (original & Warhead), L4D and Dead Space all cause the machine to freeze. Vista is patched to the max, DX is up-to-date, drivers are the latest.

I picked up a cheap 4650 on Saturday and can play all the games with that.

*sigh* computers ......
