That's a pretty good article on the topic, got a link to explain why RDR was not released on PC and it makes sense if you've ever played gta4 on pc.
gta5 sold close to 13 million copies on steam alone, that excludes physical copies or 3rd party resellers. I doubt they gonna say fsck the pc crowd with such numbers at play :D

Just upgrade the old pc to an i7 and add more storage / ram then you can use pci pass-through so both can play on one pc independently. i7 4790(k) chips are going cheap on carbs and so too motherboards that support more than 1 graphics card.

I've got a pci-passthrough setup, my daily driver is linux then i have a windows 10 virtual machine with a rx 470 passed through for my gaming.

It's a little technical to get set up and there are some issues you could run into that would need to be worked around but once it's up and running it's very reliable in my experience.

Don't do your child an injustice by getting him a console.

PC is a must. He can even develop other skills on a PC like programming or something.

How much do you think you will for it on PC?

A further complication is my inability to play with the usual "pads" supplied for gameplay. Maybe it's all in the mind or lack of practice, but I am just all too comfortable with a mouse and KB :o

On a more serious note, he's not interested in any of the old games - it's Fortnite, CoD/BLoPs, etc or he's not interested (that's what all his irl and online friends are playing)

PS: Parenting is a tough gig in this day and age (especially when you, the parent, are a gamer but realise that if you let your kid game all the time he'll never get an education :o )

So much this ^ :o While we can, we tend to limit our lad and his time with gaming. Fortunately, he loves playing with the Lego in the house and he'll do this for hours while listening to his audio books.

We already do. My daughter, 15, clicked into books a few years ago and reads prodigiously now. My son, 9, reads substantially more than many his age. He also loves audio books too. Since we moved an older mini hifi into his room, he has klapped Roald Dahl stukkend and is now doing the Storey Treehouse books.

For me the fact that they are selling single player content that's exclusive to the ultimate edition is a let down. I enjoyed the first RDR but depending on how they monetize RDR 2 i might give it a skip.

CDKeys preorder likely to be around R600, like most other major releases. I paid that amount for GTA V, FIFA 18, Far Cry 5 etc. I see FIFA 19 and Rage 2 are R618 each atm. Just Cause 4 is R582.

GTA:Online is certainly very concerning for the path Rockstar has taken. The grind fest required for the utterly ludicrous in-game item prices is absurd. And the new Gay Tony DLC clearly started out as single player content.

Unless there's a clear change in attitude, which is exceptionally unlikely given how much people spend on those goddamn shark cards, I'm staying well clear of RDR:Online.

So a whole extra R250 disgusts you? :p

Anyways, I am not going to fight over this. Got PC, PS4 pro and xbox. I just happen to prefer the PS4. Doesn't mean I don't play PC games.

Yeah, it does. Humble Monthly is $12 a month and includes loads of excellent games. EA Origin Access Premier will be the equivalent of R100pm once it goes live if you pay annually. And those basically add up to R250 and represent an insane amount of top quality content.

I don't often pay full preorder price for AAA games. And the quality of Humble Monthly has made me even more hesitant. Don't see myself paying R600 again tbh now that Access Premier can give me FIFA 19 and Battlefield V.

Haha, I have 2 gaming PC's for myself and 2 boys. Bought them an Xbox so they could get off the PC's. Two months later they were back, Xbox now gathering dust.

With Steam, Origin, Discord etc, they just can't resist the PC's. Hd to buy a 3rd PC now :(

I already said I'll generally avoid paying full price for games in the future - the value for money from PC subscriptions is just so vastly superior. But if I'm going to pay top dollar for the occasional special title, at least it's around 50% cheaper than on console and doesn't require an expensive subscription to enable multiplayer. And the PS+ and Games with Gold games are sufficiently disappointing to not add material value to the subscription cost.

Xbox > All for subscriptions and value I reckon.

EA Access
Xbox Game Pass

Games with Gold with gold requirement for multiplayer I see often but it's not like it's an expensive addition really and although there are slumps in some months with games there are also amazing titles that do pop up and more often than not a single game of the four is enough to justify the value argument.

With Game Pass + Games with Gold you'd never need to buy anything outright. It would be nice to get a separate sub that just includes both for less money though.

iPad Pro is a poor substitute for a PC. Drives my mom and dad up the wall and they don't even play games. I don't even enjoy helping them with stuff on them - the pinching, dragging, typing, multitasking, mobile app design etc. doesn't come close to using a normal PC. Both are going back to laptops when it's time for an upgrade.

Lol was trolling. most of the tasks people do on computers the average person and especially younger people these days just do them on their mobile devices
