pc vs consoles

Yeah, actually forgot about the old Wii-Wii. Wouldn't call it a next-gen console though. Sure that remote is quite cool but the graphics and non multimedia issue spoils it.

Hey - good game play beats eye candy. And 576p is not so junk, you know.

FPS shooter not tap the mouse button as hard as you can :D
First person not slasher games :D.

Yeah, I forgot, some were still in diapers when I was hammering away at DOOM2, QUAKE and Duke Nukem 3D on Uni Networked PCs with friends. Oh the days - and we played with the IT guys right there. Oh how they lamented how it slowed the network down. Yeah, right. :) Did we care - Heck no.

Mouse or Ctrl key, it's still the same thing. You'd prefer to play a racing game with a steering wheel, ne? So a Wii controller jobbie should be better for FPS. Point and shoot.

Yeah. Actually just playing with ya:D, actually like the Wii. It's brilliant for a group to play. Again it performs in it's role brilliantly. But I would take a PS3 first though.

You see, here come the fanboys. FAIL
This is what I was referring to. But two morons in this thread seem to think that it was an attack on the question, as opposed to inviting fanboys to turn it into yet another flamewar.

The wii is awesome as is the ps3, the wii loses its shine though. Gaming a little limited and non of the major titles look lekka on it. I also never saw many first person shooter like cod battlefield on wii. O wait FPS shooter games are just better on ps3/xbx and pc i reckon :D.

Imagine cod mw2 on a wii lol, that would be interesting. wii needs a decent boxing game :D. Amazingly the stock boxing game is better than the 700 rand ones.

Diapers when duke nukem was released lol, i played all of them and cannot imagine how a wii could play them. keyboard/mouse just works so much better and i grew up playing those games on pc. Aiming in FPS is heavy on a console :D. Glad they released bfbc2 on pc as well. Tried the first 1 on playstation 3 and it was horrid the aiming.

ps3 is just a legend for my hd projector streaming movies :D, soccer games on console ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh pure bliss :D

I think the guy just wanted to know if he should buy a pc or console, unfortunately on mybb he is never going to get away with it. Way to many fanboys. He will have to filter out the BS and find out what he likes to play, from there we can help him choose the best platform. But just spouting " PC/PS3/xbox is better" is not going to help if he does not like the games on that platform. I suggest ignoring the fanboy morons though. It gets a poster nowhere arguing with them.

Hmm, ala arcade style. ZXxx

Junk game play is junk game play at 720p, 1080p and 4K. You know gay pr0n is still gay pr0n at any resolution, but some people will say that watching it in 1080p is somehow superior. No offense to the gay gamers out here - imagine pr0n with women then.

Practise what You preach much? LOL

Was referring to comments such as these: " any explicit's)

i.e. business as usual for you - taking digs at people and going on and on about PS3 vs. Xbox.

Hi what platform has best graphics and on what resolution do consoles play

to answer your question; i have an xbox and my nephew and younger brother have playstation 3's which i use now and then. i gave my ps3 to my brother ...

having access to the two main gaming consoles and a gaming pc i can tell you now that if you have the cash, go for a gaming PC ... graphically it outperforms consoles easily. this is not open for debate, my friend has a 8800 gt graphics card which he bought like 3 years ago and mass effect 2 looks better than on any console. i have a radeon 5870 which runs mass effect 2 and any new title as if it were a joke.

i know i'll be called a fanboy for this but there is no reason to go the console way if your serious about gaming... when i say serious i mean you only want the best graphics, performance and load times. Edit: oh and playing with a mouse and keyboard is an experience you can't emulate on a console. when it comes to first person shooters, or in fact any game that involves any kind of aiming and shooting a mouse and keyboard is a must.

also console games sell for stupid prices... R700 a game is silly and will end up costing you much more in the long run compared to PC games which average at half that.

to sum up my post, buy a PC if you want to enjoy the best that gaming has to offer and if you intend on buying in the region of 10+ games a year. the only downside to PC gaming at the moment is that some titles just aren't being released for the platform... either that or you have to wait a few months after the console version is released.

There is much truth to what you saying. I too have a gaming PC with the same video card has you (2 of them actually). I also have a PS3 with all the AAA games released for it. Non of these games come close to what my PC is capable of but I still enjoy my PS3.

It is sad that a lot of the games now for the PC are just ported games from the consoles. I just hope that crysis2 will push my PC to the limits (even better if it puts it in its knees), but seeing that it will also be coming out for the consoles I really doubt it will even budge my PC.

So I having a gaming rig and console as well, and console definitely trumps PC...here's the pro's...(I won't worry about cons)

PC PRO'S :

1. Superior graphics (Got MW2 on both platforms, and the PC graphics is noticeably superior).
2. Game prices are cheaper (In most cases as much as 50% cheaper than teh console version)
3. Still the place for competitive gaming for FPSs and Strategy games....

CONSOLE PRO'S :

1. Exclusives live here - PS3 alone you got LittleBigPlanet, Rachet & Clank, Gran Turismo, Resistance series, Killzone2, Uncharted series, Infamous, Metal Gear Solid, Heavy Rain, God of War, Motorstorm Series, Heavenly sword, Warhawk....on PC...nada really, Crysis 2 is coming to console...perhaps World of Warcraft and World in conflict.

2. Cheaper hardware (never have problems running, upgrading or performance)

3. Never have to worry about software/DRM issues...compatibility issues like DirectX, drivers, DRM, O/S is a thing of the past !

4. Communities - The x-box and PS3 communities are significant compared to the p|ss poor PC gaming community in SA(and globally)...it's a trend that is really mature enough to say pc gaming communities is 'dead'.

5. Games are more expensive but retain value. PC games are basicallyl digital purchases (i.e. as if you just bought a key from an online supplier)...console games have a very strong 2nd hand market established with trades and sales in both formal and informal environments.

6. Consoles provide a more generic entertain option (media playback, social games (Guitar hero, LittleBigPlanet, Sports games, etc), internet connectivity). I was a heavy PC user, but can do most of my pc work on my PS3 now with the exception of documents.

7. I've recently spent considerable time gaming on both and personally believe that console gaming offers far more than pc, so much so, that i don't miss any aspect of pc gaming. I haven't heard anyone complain about issues of console gaming...it's the not the future of gaming, it's the NOW! There is tons of competitive gaming happening in this space, including telkom's competition...

your last sentence is the reason for me being a bit annoyed at the industry at the moment. sure consoles play their part etc. having said that, we must admit that since the introduction of 3D graphics cards, the gap between PC and console has only widened more and more. Your dual 5870 setup compared to a consoles 3D capabilities is like comparing President Zuma to Jessica Alba in a beauty contest.

now my real gripe comes in when i see games being held back specifically so that the PC vs console graphics aren't that much far apart.... since when was the gaming industry interested in holding back so the fat kid can catch up? this may be me being dramatic but i honestly feel that gaming is being held back tremendously by consoles. when the PS3 was released Sony said that they wanted it to have a 10 year lifespan... that's just lol ...

The exclusives argument is two fold.... on a PS3 you'll get the Metal gear franchise etc. God of War3 etc. etc. but you don't get Mass Effect 2 which blows all those away (in my opinion)... the exclusives thing forces you to get two consoles.

2. Cheaper hardware (never have problems running, upgrading or performance)

for what your getting you are overpaying... the PS3 graphics processor and hard drive is a joke... even the 250gb is tiny.

3. Never have to worry about software/DRM issues...compatibility issues like DirectX, drivers, DRM, O/S is a thing of the past !

i have windows 7, no issues here to be honest.... even if you do have driver issues, it takes a few hours to sort out

4. Communities - The x-box and PS3 communities are significant compared to the p|ss poor PC gaming community in SA(and globally)...it's a trend that is really mature enough to say pc gaming communities is 'dead'.

that is such a silly statement. look at WoW, the community is gigantic... people who own PC's have so many options when it comes to connecting to people. we aren't forced to use the PSN like console owners are. in fact, the PC community is so much bigger than the console community online there's no comparison.

5. Games are more expensive but retain value. PC games are basicallyl digital purchases (i.e. as if you just bought a key from an online supplier)...console games have a very strong 2nd hand market established with trades and sales in both formal and informal environments.

when a PC game is old it sells for R100 which is still a third of the price of a second hand console game..... SECOND hand

6. Consoles provide a more generic entertain option (media playback, social games (Guitar hero, LittleBigPlanet, Sports games, etc), internet connectivity). I was a heavy PC user, but can do most of my pc work on my PS3 now with the exception of documents.

as a multimedia centre my PC is far superior to a PS3 ... the range of software and options far outweigh a PS3

7. I've recently spent considerable time gaming on both and personally believe that console gaming offers far more than pc, so much so, that i don't miss any aspect of pc gaming. I haven't heard anyone complain about issues of console gaming...it's the not the future of gaming, it's the NOW! There is tons of competitive gaming happening in this space, including telkom's competition...

couldn't disagree more. i have bioshock 1 on my pc, the amount of immersion and intensity felt when playing a FPS with a mouse and keyboard can't be replicated using an xbox controller. there is a huge difference graphics wise too. competitive gaming was born on the PC.... starcraft 1 is still going strong and when starcraft 2 comes out it will be played online in mass.

you can't say that console gaming is "the NOW" when PC games look better, perform better and facilitate the whole gaming experience much better.

disclaimer: please add IMO to all my sentences :)

Consoles are just wannabe PC's.
Pc's can do everything and more than a console.
People with limited comprehension power get consoles at the end of the day.

I prefer to keep work stuff on the PC and gaming to the console. Separability is king - when one goes down then I don't lost the functionality of the other. Also I'm willing to sacrifice the bit on the graphics side to be able to pop in a disc and play from the comfort of my couch, rather than spending 2 hours installing, validating, patching and updating drivers before even getting to the game.

At the end of the day both are awesome, there are just some games that i could not play on the ps3. The ps3 though is lekka for chilling and playing games. I am happy i bought a ps3, nfs Shift is awesome on it, cost twice as much though :( and soccer games rule on the ps3. The pc however is good for certain games and all the other stuff like internet, email etc. So i am not sure why there are fanboys. Totally different platforms that are not competing against each other.

If you ask me anyone who has enough cash should have a console and a pc :D. Be a fanboy of both makes the most sense to me.
