I have just bought three second hand 512MB PC133 sticks of RAM. I decided to check if they are all OK, put the first one in and fired up Memtest86. I stopped the test after the first pass, with over 100000 errors. So the first one is DEFINATELY shot.
The second one is running now, and after 2 passes, has returned 1 error.

My question is, how many errors would be considered acceptable? PC133 RAM is incredibly expensive, and quite rare to find. I only paid R320 each, and the best price I found new was R799.

The guy said that he did have some extra, and that I should let him know if there is a problem with them. I don't know if I should send the second one back with only 1 error, but I also don't want to use it, and end up getting BSOD errors, random freezes, etc.

So, is 1 error acceptable?

It should not have any errors at all. And R320 is a bit much for that RAM in any case. We can get it here for around R280 per stick. ( we use it as replacements in Customers PC's they need to be repaired )

I would send it all back.

Where's HERE for R280 per stick? Like I said, R799 was the best price I could find for NEW PC133 ram.

1 error is unacceptable. Firstly, try bush any dust out of the ram slots, and clean the contacts on the ram, then test them again.

The third one tested no errors after 3 passes. I am gonna give him a call, since he said he had more laying around.

Thanks for the responses. I initially thought that one error would have been OK, but I guess all it takes is one error to cause BSOD errors.
