Hey guys,

Does anybody know where to get a PCI-E 1X Graphics Card in SA? A friend of mine wants to get another monitor to start using triple monitors (he has to much money to spend) :D. I only know where to get a normal PCI card, but I don’t think that it would handle a 22” screen. A PCI-E 1X card like the 7300GT would be great.

Any 16x card will fit and work in a 1x slot... and will still give you the high resolutions.

Edit: Just don't get a big heavy card, don't think the slot will survive that. :D

err...no it won't ?

what you gonna do - cut away half the connector to make it fit??

PCI 1X is for other stuff like lan cards/sound cards/etc...

Yip.

PS: Maybe put "Edit:" there somewhere when you edit you post? :p

Edit: And it isn't half the connector, just that small part where the slot ends.

PCI-e and PCI are different. But you just get faster PCI-e slots they still the same slot though.

but what about the rest of the connector?

and if it does work, something like an X2 will DEFINITLY break it. :D and you will never get up to the same speed as half the port is not used ?

waste of money i'd say...

Yeah, That's why I said...

And from what I understand, his friend won't be gaming on it. And look at it this way, his friend has a lot of $$$, so if he damages the board, he can just get another one. :p

if he really has money he should look into tri-sli....

imagine 3 X GTX 295's in a Tri-sli Setup......

*drools*

Aaahhhhh, you already like the GTX295 more than your card? :(

[ot]Does your tv have a DVI connection or how are you connecting your tv to your pc?[/ot]

Heh - nooit bru! I love my X2:p ....but uh... 3 of those won't be bad either

My TV has 2 HDMI's, so just use a dvi-to-hdmi cable.

Something like this could also work. We will try the full card into the x1 slot, will let you guys know if we blow up something :D And no, the 3rd screen will not be used for gaming.

I know it’s expensive, but just using it as an example. We will first try not to blow up anything with the full card in the PCI-E 1x slot before buying anything :D

Sorry to resurrect this thread, but I just want to say that a 16x card does not fit in a 1x slot. My colleague just tried to install a GT210 in a Intel DP67BA motherboard, and it didn't fit.

I'd guess he'll just have to buy an Intel Z68DB motherboard instead if he wants to run 4 screens simultaneously.

Did he cut the back out of the 1x slot on the motherboard? If you don't cut the back out of the slot or notch the card (would not do this in case you wan't to use it elsewhere) it won't fit.
