PCI to PCMCIA problem

Using the latest 3G Adapter (Option; SN starts with "NZ") in my notebook and in any PCI to PCMCIA Adapter in my 1st Desktop (@ work) is not a problem. (I purchased 2 different Adapters, both however RICOH ... based). Both PC's are Fujitsu-Siemens products, running on W2000 Pro SP4.

At home I have another Fujitsu-Siemens Desktop (SCENIC Edition X102i) running XP Pro SP2. Using the same PCI to PCMCIA Adapter my 3G card is NOT picked up, although all software required was installed the same way. I checked MS Update and Fujitsu-Siemens URL for latest drivers, all latest stuff installed already.

The same O/S installed on another notebook picks up the3G, so that's not the problem.

I urgently need to be able to connect from home.

Anyone with any idea ???

PS: Comments like "who buys Fujitsu-Siemens at all" etc. are neither new nor helpful, so rather keep them in your ignorant minds.

Which adapter is that? Is "RICOH based" anything related to the ELAN one?
And when you say "card is not picked up" ..when is it not picked up? During the Dash installation or afterwards when you open the dash?

I have the same Option Card, and had a Novatel previously. I must admit even though my PCI-PCMCIA adapter works ok, it struggles alot more to pick the option card up compared to the Novatel [which didn't have any issues]. Especially right after i booted up, i usually have to close dash-remove card-re-insert card-open dash .

But then again, i have the ELAN adapter which Vodacom sells, i didn't need any new drivers [still using the software that came with the adapter a year ago]. I used my adapter primarily in WinXP SP2 and on different desktop pcs including an XCube [those mini pc goodies] without issues.

 You're using a PCI > PCMCIA Adapter on a notebook. Please clarify because that is technologically impossible. ;)
Nope, as said in my posting I am using a PCI to PCMCIA Adapter on my Fujitsu-Siemens Desktop PC :)

The PCI to PCMCIA Adapter is a RICOH R/RL/RT/RC/5C475(II), R5C520 or compatible CardBus Controller, manufactured by RICOH.
Not picking up means that the PCI Adapter is picked up at O/S level but when trying to create a profile using Vodafone Mobile Connect no PC Card is picked up, i.e. this software does not want to see the inserted 3G Card.

Hey Buz,

Does the OS see the card ?

Laterz !

A long shot, but a possible reason is that one or two registry keys in

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Vodafone\Setup\NewProfile]

are missing:

"Country"="South Africa"
"InstallType"="Personal"

Tazz_Tux,

Yes, the O/S (XP Pro) sees the PCI to PCMCIA Adapter.

No, the O/S does NOT see the 3G Card, nor does the Vodacom Software when trying to create a profile.

Will check that & come back.

Found out yesterday evening that the problem is not the 3G card but the PCI to PCMCIA adapter in this specific Fujitsu Siemens Desktop. Tried a PCMCIA WiFi Adapter, which didn't work either (wasn't picked up).

So seemingly the problems is either the driver or the hardware or ????????

X-Act-Ly !! Me also like Fujitsu-Siemens Notebooks and PC's; Just read some stupid comments the other day in one of the threads of some ignorants claiming to know better ...

btw: what tequila and where are you located ?? If it isn't too far, maybe we could polish some crates ???

Unfortunately I haven't sorted out that problem - no helpful ideas in this forum so far. Seem to be stuck ... am waiting for the new Vodacom PCMCIA Adapter - they are claiming those will work with the new 3G Cards. Hope this sorts out my problem too ...

Hi buz just to update you i used another RICOH R/RL/RT/RC/5C485(II) Card and it works like a charm seems like the RICOH R/RL/RT/RC/5C475(II) and
5C476 cards have compatibility issues.
cheers:D

Thanks for the info; Where did you get the RICOH R/RL/RT/RC/5C485(II) Card ?

Unfortunately, I tried the R5C485 card, and I get exactly the same problem. PC sees the RICOH card fine, but spits it's dummy and doesn't load the drivers for the HSDPA card. Same old story, reboot, eject card, reinsert card, reboot, eject card, reinsert card, ad infinitum .... :(

Then again, I am using an ancient AMD 1G Athlon (which I love and has never given me hassles...... till now).

Mustek distributes the cards it has mecer branding on it ask your local computer store to order for you from mustek.

Boyd, came across problems installing the data cards on PII and PIII works well with P4, P5 or equivalent Mainboards.

B., thanks again for the Mecer tip, will try my local distributers ...
