What the hell are you talking about that's a traffic officer not police.

Do you really think police have time for crap like this while copping it from general public in all directions? Get your facts straight before posting crap like this.

OK !

Traffic Cops and not the "Police".

The gist of the post remains - they have lost sight of their main role which is to improve safety on the road, but as can be seen they are trapping on a steep down hill with the sole aim of filling the coffers.

Now getting back to the police - we all know how hard they work, just look at Salebi - working hard at filling their own pockets.

Now I think you should get your facts straight before responding with crap.

...i got drunk on top of that scaffolding once...

didn't see any cops or traffic cops tho...

It was probably was past their bedtime :p.

Reading a magazine - he was in civilian clothes.

What I meant was, what was his role in the speed trap? He can't just be sitting there vegging out with the traffic cop... could he?

It is similar to gun time that sniper have to do when they are on a target. No more that 10 mins on the scope, before you have to hand over to your buddy. I think in this case, it's until the guy holding the camera, has to get up to go and collect the "discount" fine from the motorist.

Cops socialise with gangsters - on video

@ WiseCrack

Are these the "Cops" you were referring to?

As part of its case against police inspector Sydney Simpson, the State plans to show the court a video of police officers rubbing shoulders with gangsters in a nightclub.

The video had been flighted on national television and relates to the implication of Simpson, who is accused of taking bribes from an alleged gang boss Christopher "Ougat" Patterson.

Simpson has been on trial in the Cape Town Regional Court for almost three years since his arrest.

On Wednesday, State advocate Mornay Julius said he would be calling police inspector Piet Viljoen to testify on the statements taken from various witnesses as well as a video.

Julius also asked that the matter be postponed until on Wednesday for Viljoen to be available because he was busy with another "delicate matter".

Simpson's attorney John Riley said viewing the video would be a waste of court time.

"The video is insignificant; it is inflammatory towards my client and is a subsidiary to make the police look bad."

Riley said the video showed several police officers socialising with gangsters at an end-of-year function at a night club - the G-Spot in Epping.

Riley said police officers would have various reasons to mix with gangsters and that the tape would be irrelevant to the court's proceedings.

"They could be infiltrating and trying to investigate them," he said.

Magistrate Eric Mbiyo said he could not bar a party from calling a witness and that while the State and the defence knew the contents of Viljoen's statement, he did not.

Riley also asked that Viljoen bring the criminal profiles of all the State witnesses, who included Patterson, his son Ashley Patterson and Lawrence Williams.

Simpson was arrested on May 17, 2005 after he was allegedly paid to support the release of Patterson's son, charged with armed robbery, on bail.

Williams, a close friend of Patterson, is awaiting trial on an attempted murder charge.

Simpson's trial continues on Thursday.

Actually I am happy to see them there; people seem to think that stretch is Kyalami, especially the taxis.

I wonder if the guys who operate the cameras are part of a specific section in the traffic dept or if they are drawn from the members.

If they are from a specific section then having them out will have no affect on the duty officers.

Do any of you guys listen to Algoa FM in the morning they have been revving the traffic dept quite a bit regarding the officers who are supposed to be on point duty.

That doesn't look like a safe place to sit if there are speeding cars.
