i have uncapped adsl 384k from afrihost! will using peerblock with bittorrent prevent me from getting copyright infringements from my isp and how ?

Thanks

yes, if not use http://phoenixlabs.org/pg2/ also set your upload speed to 1; use a commonly used VoIP port or similar, disable peer exchange, disable local peer discovery, force protocol encryption, do not allow legacy connections, etc - read the documentation that came with your client! - as you might just inadvertently inform your ISP and "others" of your downloads.

or investigate these sites:
http://www.utorrent.com/faq
http://www.measurementlab.net/
http://phoenixlabs.org/pg2/faq/
http://www.peerblock.com/docs/faq

...don't be lazy, you might just miss a vital clue.

I think you can't block everything but it will block most... and that is better than nothing. I have noticed better speeds since I installed it, the "watchers" are leaches and so if you block them you can connect to some one that is actually sharing

What do you care? Those infringement letters are meaningless. Not even useful as toilet paper. Unless you live in the US...which you don't...

Using peerblock on a private tracker is a little counter-productive unless you donating money to the site surely?

is it true that if you own illegal software for personal use then its all good ?? ive heard of a few loopholes in the law

You've got it all back-to-front. Peerblock doesn't block all peers, it just checks all connections against a blacklist of IPs know to be Gov/RIAA etc. So unless someone on the private tracker has one of those IPs (unlikely) it will have zero effect.

I would recommend kicking whoever told you that in the privates. Twice. Once for bad advice & again to keep their stupidity out of the gene pool.

whats the chances of someone actually being caught for downloading pirated stuff in south africa ?

Peerblock doesn't block everyone... just addresses of known spies.

Its so interesting to see who is being blocked... often its the department of security in Saudi or something like that.
