Perks in Software Development Company

Our coffee machine serves nescafe gold but even that is meh coffee so I also bring my own. I skimp on many things in life but coffee is not one of them.
I only drink pure Arabic and Colombian coffee.

Same here, some of the workers here think I am insane to pay what I do for some of it...

Where can one buy such coffee? Brand? How much would it typically cost?
I would like to try some.

The best way is to buy Colombian coffee beans and make your own filter coffee. Tastes amazing.
For work where there is no time to grind beans and make filter coffee, I buy Nescafe Cap Colombie from UK Imporium. R135 for a 100G bottle. It's a great coffee.

Perks? This is a business, not a millenial group hug.
My perk is that I charge them by the hour - they change the spec midway though the project- not my problem - they can take the revised schedule, or leave it. And they know what my overtime fee is.

Medical aid, bi yearly bonuses (client dependent) 13th and 14th cheques performance based, monthly snack allowance, training courses paid for, in house training also supplied (MCSD and Oracle Certs). Most sites have good coffee on tap at no cost.

Java Dev here for 4 years now and quite happy. PM me if you're smart and motivated and interested in making a move.

Clean toilets, ATM in the building, free coffee from a vending machine. Oh, and a pittance at the end of every month.

Times are indeed hard...
I haven't been here long but this is what I have seen...

First the phones, they changed the VoIP phones over to a system where everyone has a PIN, and they are monitoring everything

Secondly the printer... they installed that Equitrac crap, and removed all separate printers, and now its one printer per office, and you cannot print a thing without Big Brother knowing about it

I am waiting with bated breath to see what fate awaits the internet access in this place...

That "Equitrac crap" is there because people treat printing as if it's free - much in the same way people assume because they have open access to every site, it's an invite to torrent during work hours :p

Our printing has gone down, no longer can people come in and print every picture they find on deviantart in colour to take home and hang on their wall at the company's expense, print entire 300 page books out on one sided paper, bring their kids in to print their homework, etc :p

I am sorry whaaat?
I have never done that, nor have I seen it being done here.

I don't have a problem when people abuse the printer, then by all means yes.
I have a problem, when I work in a place where people use their own stuff, and the printer sits in power down mode most of its life, and yet they still come with this crap!

No benefits here...
Just thankful to have a job

Why? Good developers in South Africa are like hens teeth. If you're a good developer with decent experience you will never struggle to find a job in South Africa, or anywhere for that matter.

That is true, I don't struggle to find work.
The trouble is, that all the companies are the same...

Since moving to the new offices we get snacks, soda, sweets, free coffee (in paper cups), sharing 4 toilet stalls with +-20 other ladies, no more using the shuttle to get to town as the pick up destination has been moved to Rosebank. Haven't had the Friday snacks (Pizza and some yucky platters) in 2 weeks because of the move. Annual staff meeting, mid-year meeting and year end function. Last year we went to Sun City for the year end function, too awesome.

She's kinda made it obvious numerous times.

@goth_nerd: They should have rather put healthy snacks in the vending machines.
