[Personal Experiences] Hisense TV's

Hisense can be good and it can be utterly garbage in some respects as well BUT which TV brand isn't exactly the same as that - mine died just as the warranty ended - and in no way was i going to pay to get it fixed - i just got me a bigger TV from a different brand with better features (QLED, 120Hz refresh rate, fond my remote, HDR10+ etc)

the thing is that i am a heavy user ie i use it as my PC monitor and i watch at least 4 hours of TV per day AND i leave it on 24/7 so i really need heavy duty capable stuff not models where the backlight dies just as the warranty ends ..... as it stands mine died after just two years and was fixed under the warranty, then just before the 4 years was up the replaced one started showing symptoms that it was on its way out - they refused to fix it till it died and it only died after the 4 year point expired
Samsung can be good and it can be utter garbage, it was generally one of the first brands to fail on long term testing.
I've still yet to have this mythical backlight failure on a hisense and with 4 of them over 10 years and still working through daily use, it should've happened. But only the first the 50" was entry level.

i have had it twice with my TV so not THAT mythical and when they came to pick it up for the repairs ..... each time the truck was totally full of TVs with the exact same problem (as per the collecting technician) and the place where i bought mine from stopped stocking the brand because of this problem ..... they were getting too many comebacks and returns and many times Hisense refused service

but yeah nowadays most brands are a much of a muchness - they aren't building these TVs to last - they are relying on planned obsolescence to keep on making you buy new ones all the time ...... and it isn't only Hisense - i have been seeing very high failure rates from every brand so nowadays i buy based on price because i'm not expecting any TV to last too long

Okay, roughly about 8 to 10k? That would mean it's closer to entry level and sadly when it comes to entry level there are compromises.

Yeah, seems so. I just wanted a bigger TV, coming from a Samsung 55" oled which lasted 8 years. Get what you pay for.

Indeed sadly, cheap is cheap doesn't matter the brand :-(. They need to be able to sell it for that price and still make money.

Could be possible that inside the TV they have a programmable chip that after X years can redirect voltage to somewhere that requires eg 12V and give it 50V, thus blowing the chip.

Sounds far-fetched but is possible.

i dont think its that hectic or obvious - but on certain models the backlights are not built very robustly - they will probably last 5 to 6 years of normal usage before giving up but mine went a lot quicker because i was in the habit of leaving the TV switched on with the screensaver 24/7 🤷‍♂️

it isn't always the chip or board that goes - besides those are the cheapest things to replace on a TV - the panel is around 70% to 80% of the price of a new TV to actually replace

For an entry level TV where they trying to save costs to make money, adding an unnecessary chip wouldn't really reach that goal.
The issue is cut corners to make money. When you're paying R8k for a 65" TV it's not going to be the super best.

So Hisense to their credit, is refunding me for the dud TV but will only be in Takealot credit due to it being bought there.

So now I have to make a decision on what to replace this TV with. I can either try my luck and get the exact same model and hope it won't give me the same issues down the line or I have to try something else.
I don't mind putting in an extra grand or two max for something else, so I would really appreciate some advice on the following models available at Takealot

This is a direct replacement:

In reality 50/60hz doesn't make a difference. Problem is you're still getting a cheap TV

Toshiba is a division of Hisense, but the Z670 series is mid range vs entry level so it may be a better choice the TCL isn't a bad one either, but it's also one of the entry to mid level TVs, reviews say it's not too bad.
That last hisense is not good but an improvement over the Samsung

Thanks Lupus, ja look I was personally happy with the Hisense picture quality and performance overall, so not too fussy.

One thing with a quick Google that stands out for me is the brighter TCL display at 450 nits. I like my budget Hisense TV and it pairs well with my Hisense 5.1 surround sound , but it would have been nice to have a brighter display as they are 350 nits, if that much

Another unfortunate thing for budget TVs.

The Verdict Is In | TCL Z100 and Hisense Saturn - CalebRated

I've kept you waiting long enough. Life, the holidays, CES, a huge move and now, finally, I pit the TCL Z100 against the Hisense Saturn and sprinkle a little Sony Bravia Theater Quad in there to spice things up. Because, frankly, they needed a little spicing. You'll see what I mean ... just wait for it.
