[Personal Experiences] Hisense TV's

They've not been around for a long time unfortunately, software updates are also few and far between if you get them. My 3 year old M5500 hasn't had an update since the start of 2019.
Sadly, one of the reasons , I hesitated on Hisense. Bad experience with all the TVs in our office.

When I was looking at TVs at Hirsch's, had spoken to the LG (very knowledgeable on her brand and competitors) , Samsung and then finally Hisense

Told the hisense rep that it was ridiculous that on all our TVs, I bought for our office last year, none of the DStv , YouTube apps worked reliably informed on the various models (all connected via ethernet to a 150mbp connection). She tells me, we should have called the sales rep and they would sort out and wanted to schedule someone to visit our offices to upgrade firmware. i told her she was missing the point, when the TV can get an update via internet but doesn't and we need to beg on this forum to get firmware, there is a problem .

Why the fsck don't they sort out their update infra?

This may be a dumb question but is Hisense a local brand who do their own firmware in house in SA?

Hisense is a Chinese brand with a TV assembly plant in the Cape. I would imagine the Firmware is developed elsewhere but not sure. The US and Canadian markets get the H8 and H9 models and they seem to get favorable reviews. These don’t run VIDAA, probably because those markets won’t be taken for fools.

But anyway, the Hisense business model seems to be to cut corners on aesthetics and finer details in order to bring out cheaper TVs. Which is not a problem because it’s still good value at the end of the day. That’s probably why the software doesn’t get updated often. They don’t want to pay developers to maintain a TV that they feel isn’t broken. Forget the user experience, because after all it has a high peak brightness and supports Dolby Vision and that’s what the customer wanted. Right?

On the firmware and I see the panel also has its own firmware that you can check in the service menu: My 55U8QF is on K0614 and panel firmware V3.0. On overseas forums they are reffering to firmware version K09xx and panel firmware V5.0. They also complain that it did not update OTA but instead had to install K07xx and after that it got an OTA update to K09xx. I was hoping to get that newer firmware from @Hisense SA and I also emailed support but no response yet. I am hoping the newer firmware fixes some of my issues especially the HDR10+ that seems to be unavailable even though it is advertised as having support

The good thing about the U8QF is that it's an international version unlike the Q8600. If I were you, I would search those forum for any reference to the K0614, so that you can also update with confidence of not bricking your TV.

Unfortunately it looks like our U8QFs are an Africa specific version - there is no choice under countries to choose anything other than African countries. Might be why we're on K0614 while EU has OTA updates to k0908. Considered trying to just load that EU firmware last night but chickened out - the likelihood of bricking my new TV was still a bit too high! Couldn't find anyone else online that had tried it.

I've been doing a bit of reading and the hisense french website seems to have a firmware available for download.
I noticed some French in the supplied user manuals so maybe it will work on our sets :D

Even if it does work, would Hisense SA honor any warranty claims if the software was not supplied by them or done via the TV’s internal sotware upgrade tool? Even if the warranty claim is not software related.

Someone's TV was bricked whilst installing another country's software and Hisense came and sorted the issue. Hope that answers the warranty question.

Not at all. Not for me anyway. But luckily I don’t own a Hisense TV (I might in the future) nor will I mess with my TV’s software or hardware configurations. And if I did it wouldn’t be on the vague basis that “someone’s TV” was repaired :) at some point.

Did anyone else that ordered TVs from the Vodabucks store get their orders yet?
Got some idiotic voucher on Thursday. Had to scan qr code which took me to Digital Planet website and had to register for delivery there. Spoke to a consultant from Digital Planet yesterday and they estimate delivery within 3 - 5 working days....WHY this additional step Vodabucks, WHY!?

That's further than I've gotten at least...

Vodacom and Digital Planet cannot find any details of my order when I give them the reference number I received in the order SMS.

Took the plunge and ordered a 65U7QF after receiving two DOA LG Nanocells from Takealot.

Anything special that I need to know? Is this equivalent to the H8G overseas, but with VIDAA instead of Android?

Thought it was rude not updating this thread as you guys did provide some feedback. Eventually settled on the LG Nano, albeit the 79. Chatted to consultant at a diff shop and comparing to the Sammy and HiSense it seemed the better choice given there was not much between them. Ultimately got the very last one on the floor at Game -(who were one of the very few still honoring black friday/cyber monday prices) So managed to get this one at R14k which I think was good for the 65inch range. So far happy with it, even the quirky laser pointer remote thingy :). Only thing not too great is dstv app. hoping its just that the tv is too far from the router and the interwebz signal is poor, if not going to have to find alternative streaming sights/apps for sports as I have not yet seen what the tv can do regarding sports with decent quality source.

Nice one, glad you're happy with it.

How do you find the contrast and black levels? The LG IPS panels tend to have great colour accuracy, brightness, and viewing angles but apparently the contrast and black levels are sub par?

I'd be interested in your feedback :)

Hi all...so my 10 year old non smart Samsung led is starting to act up and I am looking at getting something decent to replace it with. Unfortunately I am restricted to a size of 50 inches otherwise it would mean a complete redo of the lounge which is not on the cards right now. I have been looking at the a7100f model ( I know it's not as fancy as the unless that the majority in here have mentioned) and it looks like it could suit my needs but I am not a fan of vidaa.

The skyworth looks to give similar performance as the h7100 at the same price and has Android 10 but I am a bit gunshy regarding this brand. I came across the a7200f on Takealot which is on promo at the moment but I am waiting on a response from Hisense regarding Dolby vision as the Takealot ad specifies that it does have it but the Hisense site does not indicate this.
To throw another spanner in the works I came across a special that hirshs is running for the Samsung tu8500 and from all the reviews I have come across this is supposed to be one epic TV....so right now it's a. Toss up between the a7200f ....the skyworth uc9300 and then the tu8500...any advice?

Out of those three, I'd definitely go for the Samsung!

AFAIK the TU8000 and TU8500 are the same except for the stand.
